There certainly is a great deal in the news these days to make us feel that 2012 may turn out OK. The gender gap, early polling etc. Maybe it will. However, I fear complacency. A few shifts here and there, and a sure thing might become less sure, and the only thing we'll be sure of is one hell of an ugly campaign.
Do not underestimate to combined effect of Money and Hate.
Conservatives don't like Romney--Clear enough. BUT in order to win, Romney does not care about anything. He will do anything to make this a race. WTF does a guy with millions of dollars want to be president for anyway? Huge ego or something there, and winning is the only thing that matters. What if he does pick Santorum as VP? That might be enough for Conservatives to be energized. That might be enough to get some enthusiasm. It will not take much really--they are out of their minds--rememebr that, they think Obama is a Kenyan, Socialist Anti-Christ--do you really think they will hold that much of a grudge against Romney? I hope they do, but I doubt it.
SO,will picking Santorum screw the middle? Maybe. Don't underestimate the hate. Don't underestimate the stupid--48% voted for McCain With Palin, and we all know what a non-thinking, unqualified disaster she was. 48% pulled the lever for her--NEVER FORGET THAT!! There are still many people who hate the fact that the President is Black--don't kid yourselves for one second--they do, and for many voters, that alone is enough. Voting booths are private--no one sees the lever you turn.
I am optimistic, but let's avoid complacency. We need to get turnout equal or higher to 2008 to win, and don't think for a second that this is going to be easy. This is going to get ugly--one way or another--there is hate and ugliness waiting for a focal point. We must be ready with the alternative. The time for thought is gone--this election will be another fight for what is left of America's soul.
ARE YOU READY??
