Those aren't flip-flops—Mitt Romney is somersaulting for joy at his anti-choice endorsements.
Here's a surprise: Now that Mitt Romney is the only game in Republicantown, anti-abortion groups are issuing heartfelt endorsements about how sincerely he hates abortion. The fact that they didn't endorse him until everyone else was gone? Pshaw, ignore that. It in no way signals reluctance. No, the National Right to Life Committee and the
Ohio Right to Life Society Political Action Committee and the
Susan B. Anthony List are all about ... defeating Barack Obama, anyway, and at this point, that means Mitt Romney.
Anti-choicers, fall in line. I said fall in line, dammit:
"It is now time for pro-life Americans to unite behind Mitt Romney," said Carol Tobias, president of the [National Right to Life Committee]. "While some would like to call into question Mitt Romney's pro-life position, let me state clearly and emphatically, Mitt Romney is pro-life."
Since this is likely to be the final act of Romney's political career, they're probably right: He's against abortion and will stay that way, since he won't be running for an office where it would benefit him to change his mind again.
