Teacher's Comments from Mrs. Riddell:
My Students: Can you imagine seeing the wonder of life and development for the first time? My students do not have the opportunity to see and experience ecosystems. By examining the development of tadpoles my students will be able to see what they have learned in my life science class first hand.
My class is composed of group of inner city, economically disadvantaged, racially diverse high schoolers. A large population of my class are recent immigrant students who have come to this country on refugee status. A majority of my students experience great difficulties in their personal lives such as foster homes, homelessness, neglect, family turmoil, and dysfunction.
My Project: My students are studying Biology and Environmental Science. An aquarium will give us the tools to be able to examine the many components of an aquatic ecosystem. I am also planning on growing tadpoles to demonstrate growth and development. Students will be able to organisms they have never seen before.
This project will excite students to learn. When students are able to witness real world examples of what they are learning they become more interested. An aquarium will be a valuable tool for many of the activities/ projects that we complete in class.
COMPLETED!
