Over the past few weeks my computer has gotten slower and slower. For longer than that it frequently has high CPU usage and stops working often at the start of a session. More recently the port for the power converter became loose and the battery sometimes kicks in without my realizing it until the computer shuts down after about 20 minutes.
Then last night it just went dead. No blue screen, no little green lights. Nada.
So today I went to the Geek Squad. The woman there reset the power, and that worked. I went to the library for the wi-fi. Partway through my email it happened again. This time it was for good. RIP
The computer was an old Dell 610 laptop that linkage put together for me last time this happened - and that was also an old laptop he put together for me. This one lasted longer - about a year and a half, I think.
I was hoping that it would last until the fall. I was looking at Best Buy a couple of months ago and figured I could manage one in the fall with the check from the first Sierra Vista concert unless something else came up requiring extra money. I was hoping this one would last till then. It never occured to me it wouldn't even last til NN12.
This community has been wonderful to me over the years. I am going to NN12 because allensl and loggersbrat are getting me there. I'm driving a car that was a gift from imafrayedknot and family when I desparately needed one and they were getting ready to donate it. I have a community quilt.
I have friends who are no longer virtual, but extrememly real.
If I can come up with $250 or $300, I could afford an inexpensive laptop, which is really all I need since what I do with it primarily is write, research, play a few games, and use it as a kindle instead of replacing old classics, and getting an occasional new book.
My PayPal account is rmaraport@yahoo.com if anyone would like to send a few dollars.
I feel like a leech sometimes, but sometimes I am just extremely grateful and incredulous at the generosity of this community.
I will not be able to stick around long, since this is a library computer and they are closing at 6. I will be back in the morning to thank anyone who helps.
