One of the most prevalent Frank-Luntz-approved Republican memes is that the President "can't run on his record". But the campaign's recent signature line—Osama is dead and GM is alive—is nothing but record: reminders of some accomplishments of this administration that were achieved by means explicitly and loudly denounced by McCain, Romney, and the Republican establishment. And when the President reminds people of this very record, he is attacked by the same people who say he "can't run on his record". The meme is everywhere: Haley Barbour 3 days ago, Boehner ten days ago, Ryan 10 days ago, Romney April 1, etc. The only way to stop this nonsense is to point our—in letters to the editor, comment threads, etc.— that Obama is running on his record, and that it is the Republicans who complain when he does. There is a coordinated plan to push this meme, and there must be a coordinated plan to push back.
