I wanted to do a diary for Netroots for the Troops but how with all this great stuff happening? It's celebration time. Party time. Magic time. And all in ONE day!
Today is Cinco de Mayo, a celebration of the Mexican army's victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Viva le Mexico!
That all by itself is a very good reason for a party.
There's going to be drinks.
Delectable food. Shrimp tacos with onion salsa, anyone?
And lets not forget the Pinata Cookies! Seriously, there're treats inside the cookies.
There's going to be music and dancing! It's going to be a hot time in the old town today!
But that's not all that this day holds, is it? NOooooooo.
In less than an hour the 138th Kentucky Derby will start.
Today, the same day as Cinco de Mayo, there's going to be women wearing strange things on their heads......
They'll be everywhere.
More traditional drinks will be imbibed.
More food will be eaten.
And yummy deserts savored. Right?
There will be music.
And there will be dancing in the infield and racing on the track.
But is that all?!!!
Of course not!!! Tonight the largest full moon of the year will rise.
A Supermoon
And with all the magic in the air what else would the full moon in May be called? There's a great deal of synchronicity at work here so just think about it for a moment. It's the month of May. Everything is blooming. Today is the Kentucky Derby, otherwise known as The Run for the Roses.
How could the supermoon rising tonight be any thing else than the "Flower Moon."
All of this is happening in just one 24 hour day. Rather amazing isn't it?
So, what do you think? Shall we have a party? :D
There's plenty of food, drinks, music, and yes, hats. Pooties and woozles are very welcome.
While we're having a great time on this Cinco de Derby Flower Moon magic day, I'll be delighted to take requests and donations. If anyone would like to write a diary for the fundraiser just let me know. After all, what better way to kick off the blogathon and celebrate this day than with a real good party!
Tomorrow we continue with two breathtaking diaries. Our own lineatus and Susan from 29 will be posting some amazing work on behalf of our sons and daughters in harms way. lineatus' diary is first up at 9am edt. Susan will be sharing her heart with us at 3pm edt. Won't you please join us? You won't regret it.
Lets rock it out!
Netroots For The Troops
Netroots For The Troops® is raising funds to send Care Packages to our soldiers stationed overseas.
We are asking all of you to support our efforts and to also make a contribution for this worthwhile cause.
Over the years, many soldiers have sent letters to express their appreciation for these Care Packages and even posted thanks at Daily Kos
It was in the middle six months of my assignment in Afghanistan that the packages started arriving. I received an array of things from them… letters, candy, toothpaste, floss, baby wipes, razors, food, socks, books, dvd’s. The list could go on and on. It was amazing. Netroots for the Troops was always there... The packages were a reminder that our country knows about our fight. Every day, because of their support, I knew that if it was going to be my last day, I would be remembered and I would be honored.
Please make a donation HERE. Thank you from the entire 2012 NFTT Team.
Netroots For The Troops® is a project of Netroots for the Troops, Inc., a Virginia non-profit corporation. The NFTT diaries are a way for the Daily Kos community to support the troops in Afghanistan. We send them packages of items they might not otherwise receive through the normal military process but that they find useful. This is a non-political diary. While we understand there are differing views on the wars and the warriors, the site gives plenty of opportunity to express those views elsewhere. Furthermore, we would hope that users do not engage with those that attempt to hijack or otherwise disrupt these diaries.
We appreciate your understanding and support. Thanks!
A little Moon music for all of you.
