Having two dual channel DVRs I can "beta test" a lot of shows. I tend toward sci-fi, cooking, and sports. But I try other stuff cause often I find there is a good show out there I wasn't aware of. I will admit I am now hooked on a reality TV show on A&E called Duck Dynasty.
Here is the situation .....
An extended family in southern Louisiana. They made millions selling duck calls. Millions and millions. They have unkept beards down to the middle of their chests. Even longer hair. The show follows them as they try to run their business and stay true to their hertiage.
It flat out rocks!
See these folks are rich. But they still hunt and fish for almost all the food they eat. I tend to not care so much about the duck call part of the show. I instaed like to focus on the grandfather, who openly says he is taking it upon himself to teach his grandkids, that might never have to work a day in their lives, to know how to find, hunt, kill, and cook what they eat.
He also gives some of the most sage advice I've ever heard. Things like:
Don't let the makeup on a women's face confuse you. Focus on what is inside. That is all that matters.
At the end of each show, the extended family eats a meal together. The show ends with a prayer. I am an atheist and I find them amazing. Things like:
Thank you Lord for all the forest, rivers, and swamps and all the things that live in them. Your bounty is just too much.
We are thankful for the frogs (that is their dinner). We are alive on planet Earth one more day and we are thankful.
Look "reality" TV shows can suck. This show doesn't in fact suck.
