Senator Lugar left with some fighting words last night!
It's time for "this day in history." On this date in 1918, 60 Minutes newsman Mike Wallace was born Myron Wallace in Brookline, MA. On this date in 1974, the House Judiciary Committee opened hearings on whether to recommend the impeachment of President Richard Nixon.
Let's get SPARKy! :D This guy must've had some bitchin' tunes on his car stereo. ;D Good doggy! I know a few recent college grads ;D, but I didn't give them this advice. The nature of my advice was way more fun! Finally, don't let this guy near open flames!!
On with The Rachel Maddow Show...
Somewhere, this guy is smiling tonight.
And just for NC...
"By the Power Vested in Me..."
Today was a historic day for civil rights in this country.
Yes, Miss Rachel, it was! Count me as 1 of those folks who weren't quite sure he'd actually say what he said, and count me thrilled to be wrong! :D I figured he'd wait to say something after the election if he won. Some folk in Kansas want to give towns the right to discriminate against gay people. A civil unions bill was put on the kibosh in CO. Most MENSA politicos have become more anti - gay over the years. GWB was all over civil unions in 2004; Mittens is all over opposite marriage only. President Obama is now on the same marriage equality page as DICK! Mittens has been giving lots of money to "pray the gay away" groups & other similar organizations. There's MENSA member GWB claiming that marriage has such deep religious roots. {
insert annoying buzzer here} WRONG! Marriage was all about the property. Ugh...Rachel, there's entirely too much GWB for such a great night! And, there's Saint Ronnie not doing anything about AIDS until Rock Hudson died from it. President Clinton had lots of gay friends, but he's also responsible for DOMA & DADT. Talk about your mixed legacies! I don't understand all the "political risk" talk. People against marriage equality aren't going to vote for him anyway. After this afternoon, President Obama has shored up his support in the LGBT community. Hell, I might actually do something I've not done yet - contribute to President Obama's re - election campaign!
"The Interview" - Rep. Barney Frank is a happy Congress critter tonight. :) President Clinton abolished a hateful policy that homosexual government workers couldn't get security clearance. Wow... THAT has hypocritical in - the - closet J. Edgar Hoover ALL OVER IT. Rep. Frank agrees with me that President Obama won't be too adversely affected by his announcement today.
"By the Power Vested in Me Part Deux" - Yep, the night Barack Obama was elected, Prop 8 in CA was approved, too. Rising poll numbers supporting marriage equality doesn't exactly translate to votes against anti - gay amendments. There's Governor Take a State Helicopter to a Kid's Game saying that civil rights should've been put up for a vote. Mayor Cory Booker took ISSUE with that comment. Yea, civil rights shouldn't be put up for a vote, but the prospect of Prop 8 getting to SCOTUS scares the $hit outta me. Mayor Booker's in studio to give kudos to President Obama for what he did today. Rachel IS NOT crazy about the whole "some of my best friends are gay" attitude of lots of politicos actively working to put gay rights on the kibosh. Mayor Booker IS afraid of some political backlash toward President Obama come Election Day. Didn't President Obama do one of those "It Gets Better" videos?
"...extraordinarily pro - woman..." - Lizz Winstead will have a FIELD DAY with that brilliance from Mittens! :D The incredibly increasing bat$hit anti - abortion ilk is all about controlling women. Lizz is wearing a scarlet "A"!! :D
