Today is the eve of Mothers's Day one of the biggest day's for giving flowers. Since flowers and gardens are the topic of this blog what better way to wish you all all a Happy Mother's Day this morning than with the gift of flowers and a poem about flowers and gardens.
My Dad planted and tended the flowers in his garden. My mom weeded the flower beds, she loved her flowers and brought the cut flowers into the house. Us kids helped plant the bulbs and the seeds. My love of gardens, flowers and gardening is genetic.
Ok, now to what's happening in my garden.. We got some rain for about 10 minutes this week..enough to turn my brown grass green..
I used to think that my garden here in south Florida, as winding down this time of year.. as it gets to hot to grow vegetables. But since I have been following this blog and paying more attention to my yard and its various garden areas..I now realize its actually gearing up for a heavy show of flowers. I already have plumeria's blooming all over the place. The azalea's have bloomed and are back at rest storing energy for next years show. My Queen's wreath in the past 30 days has been putting on a great show of lavender blooms, that even my husband has commented on it. I have some gingers getting ready to pop..Hibiscus and bougainvillea are in bloom...Crepe myrtles are next on the list to bloom sometime the end of this month or beginning of June. So really my garden is in full color now or will be. Blooming shrubs and trees, are turning out to be my best friends I am finding out, and they don't take as much care as annual flowers do.
Last Sunday, I went out to transplant zinnia seedlings and some ginger starts I had gotten at the plant show the week before. Ginger starts went into an empty shaded space OK. The zinnia seeds never got transplanted. I went out about 6 pm to work, as its cooler at that time.. But looking over my side garden I decided I needed to make some space for the pot I was going to use for the transplanted seedlings .. Well 2 hours later pulling out bromeliads that had overgrown their space and then having to find a place to move them to, I ran out of daylight..I just really hate when that domino effect happens in the yard. Now looking at the garden I have decided it needs a bit strong color..it has to much green. Grr..
Those seedlings are still in their tiny pots..to tired at the end of the work day to move the bag of potting soil...I gotta get them moved this weekend.
Flowers for mom this weekend or chocolates? Enjoy your weekend.
