Friday evening's diary will be a combo diary AND birthday party for some diarist who hangs in these parts. The city of Indianapolis is honoring the actual birthday by holding a big 'ol car race on Indianapolis' west side; a couple hundred thousand will be on hand to celebrate. How 'bout THAT?! ;D
It's time for "this day in history." On May 21, 1927, Charles A. Lindbergh landed his Spirit of St. Louis near Paris, completing the first solo airplane flight across the Atlantic Ocean.
No, this pic isn't the Spirit of St. Louis; the original's at the Smithsonian. But, this one is the one used by Jimmy Stewart in the movie.
On this date in 1979, former San Francisco City Supervisor Dan White was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the shooting deaths of Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk. The charge SHOULD HAVE BEEN pre - meditated murder, but, if there is a hell, good Catholic boy Dan White's there because of that whole shooting people thing AND the fact he committed suicide.
On a way brighter note, on this date in 1980, The Empire Strikes Back, the second movie in the Star Wars series, was released. No spoilers - I promise! ;D
It's time for SPARK in our Monday evening! :D I wonder what Dr. Freud would have to say about cream - filled cupcakes? I can't believe Keith Olbermann missed out on this piece of Yankees history! This wreck is a Homer Simpson's kind of wreck. ;D
We'll end with an "AAAaaaWWWwww!" Moment from the Animal Kingdom.
On with The Rachel Maddow Show!
"Exclusive" - So, I guess I'm gonna find about what all the Mayor Cory Booker fuss is about. I avoid Sunday morning television & was off the intertubes for a big chunk of yesterday. What exactly did he say? He was on MTP yesterday & said that "private capitol" wasn't bad - whatever the heck that means. So, Mayor Booker was "off message." O...K... So, the "message" is...what? Rachel then reviewed the less - than - stellar endorsements for Mittens. Mayor Booker said - or folk thought he said - that Mittens' time at Bain shouldn't be subjected to attacks or attack ads or something? And, Mayor Booker's in da' house! Mayor Booker's not crazy about "negative campaigning." Well, people might find it repugnant, but it works. He took issue with the RNC wanting folks to "stand with" him; he wants the GOBP to put their money where their pie holes are. Don't hold your breath, honey! Is it just me, or had Mayor Booker gained some weight? MENSA folk said Mayor Booker was forced to walk back what he said from the Obama Administration. And, if my show feed keeps popping out, I'm gonna retch! *&^%$#@! Anyway... President Obama did come out & say some nice things about Mayor Booker. He wants the memo of Mittens as "job creator" to be on the campaign table. Well, hell yes - especially since MA dropped to #47 as far as job creation under his Governatorship! Mayor Booker also had some not - so - warm & fuzzy comments about Citizens United & its effect on this campaign. Well, I've got some not - so - warm & fuzzy comments about Citizens United, too! It sounds like some comments were taken out of context by the RNC (?). Mayor Booker's more determined than ever in helping to be President Obama re - elected.
"You're Missing What This Job is About" - This segment began with President Obama's kind words about Mayor Booker. My...my...what 4 years of being POTUS has done to Barack Obama... This country's not a private equity firm? Well hell...the MENSA folk are falling down on the job! ;D I wonder if President Obama wished he could talk about foreign policy instead of Mayor Booker? Andrea Mitchell's (aka Mrs. Alan Greenspan) just returned from Chicago's NATO shindig. It sounds like they're going to chat up those uber - enthusiastic endorsement for Mittens & the fact that the MSM haven't exactly gone after those. People began throwing around comparisons to the Rev. Wright situation? Oh $hit...THAT'S brilliant! Those 2 situations are about as different as comparing Albert Einstein's physics abilities to $aint $arah from Wasilla's physics abilities! Being POTUS isn't about making money - or shouldn't be. Other MENSA folk also made issue of Mittens' time at Bain, remember? Newtie got all populist & Occupy - ie!
"This Is an Important Day" - The NAACP officially endorsed marriage equality rights for all loving stable homosexual couples. Well! How 'bout that?! Seriously & honestly, why are some in the African - American community against marriage equality? Are those in the African - American community who are against marriage equality in inter - racial relationships that would've been illegal in the last 50 years or so? Yea...Ben Jealous' parents were in an inter - racial relationship; THAT'S why this issue is important to him! That statement was SOMETHING! Ben Jealous called marriage equality a civil rights issue - HELL YES! :D Only 2 members of the NAACP board dissented. Those in the NAACP support marriage equality because of faith, too. :) The final tally was 62 - 2?! $HIT!! Wouldn't it be nice if President Obama would win by such a margin??!! :D The vote in NC was what spurred the NAACP into action; going state by state on this issue just ain't gonna cut it. The bat$hit wing of the GOBP have really been working to try to divide the African - American community on marriage equality. Yea, good luck with that. Some African - Americans might not be crazy about marriage equality, but they sure as $hit won't vote for Mittens! Anyone who votes against Barack Obama on this issue alone wasn't going to vote for him, anyway, so SPARK THEM! :D Constitutions are supposed to expand rights - NOT to take them away.
