NOTE THAT UPDATES ARE AT END
Diamond has SERIOUSLY screwed up and it's really making me angry.
Read the overall story here.
Yet the Missouri-based maker of Diamond, Premium Edge, Kirkland Signature, and other pet food brands has not called special attention to the expansion of the recall to cat food beyond amending a statement on the company’s Internet recall site: “Diamond Pet Foods has voluntarily recalled some brands of dry dog and cat food that it manufactured in its Gaston, S.C. facility between December 9, 2011 and April 7, 2012 due to potential Salmonella contamination.”
There is no specific information on which brands and batches of cat food may be affected, though you can check a questionable bag's product code to find out. [bolding mine]
Diamond needs to list EVERY brand, kind etc. and get the info out. But since they are apparently too damn lazy, I guess it's up to newspapers and blogs and people like us.
This really angers me.
So... here is the diamond site addressing it.
--------------------------
On Friday morning, the Calgary Herald in Alberta, Canada, reported that two cats in a Montreal animal shelter have died, and another is ill, after eating Diamond Pet Foods products. Also in Quebec, another person has been reported with a case of salmonella, bringing the total number of cases to 16 in the United States and Canada caused apparently by handling the pet food. [bolding mine]
So...
Here are the recalled BRANDS in their entirety FOR DOG FOOD:
Natural Balance
Solid Gold
Wellness
Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul
Country Value
Diamond
Diamond Naturals
Premium Edge
Professional
4 Health
Taste of the Wild
Apex
Kirkland Signature/Kirkland’s Signature Nature’s Domain
IF YOU FEED ANY OF THESE BRANDS, PLEASE GO TO THEIR SITES AND CHECK ROUTINELY NOW FOR UPDATED RECALLS.
------------------------
And the newest dog food recalled (on the 18th of May) is:
Diamond Naturals Small Breed Adult Dog Lamb & Rice Formula Dry Food
THIS INCLUDES SOME SAMPLE PACKS.
NOW... making this even MORE complicated, while the foods were only distributed to certain states, that does NOT... I REPEAT NOT account for foods sold over the net... the way I buy much of my cat food, for instance.
So, which foods for cats have been recalled?
Kirkland Signature Super Premium Maintenance Cat Chicken & Rice Formula (Best Before December 9, 2012 through January 31, 2013)
Kirkland Signature Super Premium Healthy Weight Cat Formula (December 9, 2012 through January 31, 2013)
Here is the date etc. caveat:
To determine if their pet food is recalled, consumers should check the production code on their bag. If the code has both a “3” in the 9th position AND an “X” in the 11th position, the product is affected by the recall. The best-before dates for the recalled products are December 9, 2012 through January 31, 2013.The following graphic illustrates how to read the production code and best-before date:

Are there other cat foods involved? I DON'T DAMN WELL KNOW.
NOWHERE ON DIAMONDS SITE IS THERE A COMPREHENSIVE LIST.
Diamond will be getting a very pissed off call from me in the morning and from here on out, I will NEVER buy anything manufactured by their company. NEVER. Which means that I will be calling two of the recalled food companies, Wellness and Natural Balance, and letting them know THEY are losing business because Diamond can't get their damn shit together AND because they obviously have low manufacturing standards. I am VERY angry.
I feed expensive foods for a reason.
Please excuse my mini rant but it is well deserved!
I feed 35-40 dogs and cats every day. Someone else will be getting my considerable food moneys which obviously are substantial.
UPDATE: Someone posted the FDA comprehensive list link in comments. The problem is that the CAT FOOD is nowhere listed there. So if you DO use that link, realize that it is NOT correct as of right now.
UPDATE 2: Thanks to emmasnacker for pointing out that the most recent recalled food, the lamb and rice for small breed dogs, announced on Friday by Diamond (but not by the FDA) was manufactured at another plant from all the original recalls. This is not good. It MAY mean other foods will be recalled OR that more states may be involved. So, were it me, if ANY of the current recalled foods are what you feed but your state was not involved (and you don't buy through the net), PLEASE be careful. For more information on this point, go to Susan Thixton's excellent site here. I'd bookmark that site and check it daily.
