The NAACP recently expressed their support for same sex marriage rights. The CEO equated discriminating against same sex marriage with discriminating against African Americans.
The one thing I would like to express is my personal opinion about this entire idea about civil rights. My feelings regarding equality have been shaped throughout my life by organizations like the NAACP.
I am comforted by the idea that organizations like the NAACP.
Forgive me, this is so very difficult to put into words.
When organization like the NAACP take interest in or defend a case of possible discrimination, I have a good feeling about it. Not because I believe that discrimination occurred, but because discrimination 'may have' occurred. It's comforting to know that there is someone looking out for the rights of the individuals and minorities in our country.
The NAACP is labeled as an organization defending Africa American rights. I think it has grown way beyond that because someone has learned that defending civil rights is not and has never been strictly a race issue.
I guess my point is when discrimination of any kind is defeated, every person feels a bit better about their own life.
I know I do.
