I wish that the pundits would truly call a spade a spade. They should stop using the words PAC or Super PAC and simply refer to those entities as “political unions”. The Chamber of Commerce, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), and the like are “business unions”. The NRA is the “gun union”. I am sure there are many other groups like these that hide behind their acronyms, and basically they are no different at their core than any “labor union” operating in the country today.
The objective of all of these unions is to collectively bargain to achieve the “best outcomes” for their members. It's really no different than what the Teacher's Union, or the SEIU, or any other labor union does for its membership. And the people that run and manage these groups (Dick Armey, Karl Rove, et. al.) are quite simply union organizers – nothing more. But somehow the business groups have been allowed to use different terminology to define their missions. We need to stop allowing lobbyists and PAC organizers to distinguish what they do from what any other labor union does.
What would happen if our politicians and pundits began using terms like “gun union”, “business union” and “political union” as part of their discourse? Could we force the pundits on the right into a discussion on how collective bargaining for labor is worse than collective bargaining for gun owners, or billionaires? Could we make Karl Rove's head explode if we call him what he is – basically a union organizer?
We need to do something to level the playing field here.
