The city of West Lafayette, Indiana is proposing to let Faith Community Church of Lafayette issue $7 million in development bonds with the imprimatur of the city. This will not cost the city anything, but it allows the church to issue nontaxable bonds. Among the services offered will be reorientation counseling for LGBT.
Chances are that it will pass. Nobody wants to upset one of the largest churches in the county. This offers interesting possibilities for every church, cult and kook that gets a 501 (c) (3) from the IRS. I'd like to join this fray, on behalf of the Church of the FSM.
"A few years ago, the Fazoli's in Chauncey Village closed, and has not been adequately replaced. There is a Spagheddie's to its west and a Noodles restaurant to its north, but both of them offer meals that are not within student budgets. The same goes for the City Grill on Sagamore. There is also a Pizza King with more reasonable prices on Sagamore that offers only marinara and alfredo sauce, though meatballs can be had at extra cost.
"Therefore, there exists a need in the community for the proper communion materials needed by some of the varying denominations of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, that is, spaghetti with meat sauce, offered at prices that students can afford. Certainly Faith Community will not offer its high-morals student housing for free, why should the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster refuse to charge to cover its costs? Therefore, the Church of the FSM would like to apply for permission to issue nontaxable bonds so it may open a community center in one of the many unused storefronts in our community to distribute its sacrament according to the church's diverse, venerable and ancient usages. "
"Before submitting its application, it would like to know the requirements that the City of West Lafayette applies for such permission, so that the church's application may be in full compliance."
I am not a member of this church, but can I say this as an unofficial representative of the FSM faith (should my pastor permit)?
The meeting will be on June 4, 2012 at 6:30 pm Eastern time at City Hall, unless a larger venue is chosen. City Hall is on Navajo, just west of Salisbury.
