I thought I was reading a satrical article as I read in the NY Times that Mayor Bloomberg is banning the sale of soda drinks larger than 16 ounces in an effort to 'fight' obesity. What the hell? I don't even know what to say to this. It's so stupid in so many ways that I am at a loss about how to even begin listing the stupid.
But I am not a New Yorker, so, it's not really any of my business if New Yorkers want to hand over their personal responsibility for how they treat their bodies to the city government. I am going guess that there won't be any movement in New York City to legalize pot anytime soon and I imagine all those restaurants and theaters will be happy that everyone who used to order drinks larger than 16 ounces will have to pay more for a second drink instead of a few cents more for a larger drink. It's a huge win for their bottom line. I bet that the juice and beer industry are envious.
You know, I was probably never going to live in New York, because I don't like living in cities that big, but now I certainly won't, because I don't really want to live in a city that has that much control over it's citizens. I remember growing up in church and not being allowed to drink alcohol, because God wants me to take care of my body. I wonder how long until Mayor God decides to ban the next thing he thinks is bad for the people of New York City?
7:47 PM PT: Hey, maybe someone will ask Mitt Romney about what he thinks about banning soda serving sizes, since his religion bans soda, period.
