Was about to post a diary titled "Why the F*** Hasn't Jay Townsend Been Fired Yet?",
and my research led me to this, hot off the presses:
Townsend Resigns From Hayworth Campaign
So glad it happened so quickly. Thought it might be 'swept under the rug'.
Thanks to the Kossacks who helped make it happen under the squiggle.
Acid attacks are a very real and reprehensible part of life in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, and 80% of the victims are young girls and women.
Thanks to MinistryOfTruth and Black Max for their thoughtful and powerful diaries.
There was scant mention of Townsend's 'Talibanesque' comments in the regular media, and this site has more than a few eyes on it, so I think the above mentioned diarists may have had an impact on this important issue.
Nice work!
UPDATE:
There may have been other diarists, and certainly many who commented who I didn't acknowledge. Apologies!
A few links that reveal how horrible even the threat of an acid attack is so deplorable: warning- disturbing images
Columbia Acid Victims Seek Justice
And all Nan Hayworth had to say was:
In the wake of his resignation Monday, Hayworth said the public debate should “return to talking about issues that really matter to families: job creation, spending restraint and economic development.”
Nice 'family values' there, Nan. Disfigured girls don't 'really matter' to 'families', I guess.
