This is a pretty interesting video. So is this other version of it. I think there might be several of them, and it seems CNN started out with a longer interview, which got chopped up pretty quickly.
But it is a great interview, even in pieces, and not from anything Don Lemon was doing (well not intentionally). Lemon in fact, especially visually paired with ancient Tommy Chong, seemed like an android. When Tommy, who has prostate cancer, asks Lemon at the end if he can come back, assuming Chong manages to be cured by his hemp oil treatment, Lemon looks like he's getting instructions from up above to be sure and not smile or affirm the old man's crazy request. Because some viewer might get the idea that hemp oil actually could cure cancer and then Don and CNN would get blamed for seeming too encouraging of medical quackery.
Meanwhile, Tommy is just surfing the wave, trying to be respectful, trying to be positive and also of course funny—which he was. At one point, he makes a pretty good argument for libertarian decriminalization of pot—which will NEVER happen of course. And if pot is legalized, the cigarette corporations will buy the drug lords and their thugs and send them into the woods to wipe out the independent operators.
But, as with so much of politics, and as Michael Steele said the other day—this isn't about logic. Or common sense. It's about power, and manipulating things behind the curtain and behind every heinous act—to keep it. Watching Tommy Chong bring a clown's sensibility to a serious subject (and it IS a deadly serious subject, just ask Mexico) makes us realize again what utter losers so many of our sanctimonious blowhard politicians really are.
