We knew this was coming, right.
Obama campaign requests outside Republican group disclose donors
According to Reuters Alina Selyukh
U.S. Democratic President Barack Obama's top campaign lawyer filed a complaint with the federal election regulator on Tuesday, demanding that the well-heeded and high-spending Republican advocacy group Crossroads GPS disclose its donors.
Crossroads is of course run by Karl Rove, the "let me control the media with my secret money "Super PAC" groups." guy. To my way of thinking if you have to keep something secret it is because you are doing something skirting the edge of what is legal or going over it.
Would I want my life controlled by Wally world, Targut, a gambling empire in Asia, Big oil companies and others that expect to dictate our laws since they will own the politicians they pay to elect. If the donors are secret how do we know that is or is not the case.
My personal feeling is that the "Super PAC" groups should play by the same rules every one else does. It sounds to me like this is what Obama's top campaign lawyer Robert Bauer has in mind.
Of course Crossroads knows this kind of openness will hurt their fund raising ability and allow us to determine if they are letting foreign money influence our elections.
Crossroads spokesman Jonathan Collegio said.
"In the end, Obama doesn't care about the campaign laws; he only cares about silencing conservative groups that are holding him accountable for his failed record."
We all know Obama has a much better record in just about every metric than any Republican president in recent history (Read that Bush and Bush) and the failures we have seen are caused by repubs trying to stop or stall anything Democratic. I have heard the current repubs have the worst record in history for being disrespectful to a sitting president. One example is how Rmoney's supporters are heckling Obama's speeches and when challenged Rmoney responds along the lines of we will stop if they do. Obama has asked his supporters to not do it but as far as I know disrespectful Rmoney has not done that or indicate he will.
According to Reuters, if the FEC fails to respond to the complaint within 120 days it can the be filed in court. It seems to me we can't expect this to be resolved before the election but at least we will be able to bring some much needed light on Republican dirty tricks.
The current repub motto seems to be, "If you can't amaze them your Brilliance, then baffle them with your Bull**."
