The ruling on the Mandate has a far-reaching implication that I am not entirely sure that the Supremes intended.
In ruling that a "Mandate" based upon the Commerce Clause was a non-starter, they confirmed that it WAS Constitutional under the Federal Governments powers to collect taxes.
This means, put quite simply:
The Federal Government is free to expand Medicare to cover everyone, and fund it directly through income tax.
That is the very definition of Single Payer, and what is more it can be a fully progressive tax, and not regressive.
