I can not write about this enough because the constituents of these states need to WAKE THE HELL UP and put the pressure on these inept individuals who have the gall to be called "Governor".
I don't care if you like Barack Obama or not. Nobody here is in a lovefest with any politician, but give the man credit when it is due. He lost huge political capital in fighting for the Affordable Healthcare Act. But now since the Supreme Court voted on the side of this law, it is over. Seriously, it is over. We see this in these polling numbers, which indicates that the public want to move on from this and they are starting to accept it. The swing vote that the Republicans need the most have really had it up to HERE!!!
Most independent voters say it’s time to move on to other issues now that the Supreme Court has ruled on President Obama’s healthcare law, according to a new poll from the Kaiser Family Foundation.
(snip)
A slight majority of independent voters sided with Democrats on that question in the latest Kaiser poll. Fifty-one percent of all independents, as well as independents who do not lean toward either party, said opponents should “stop their efforts to block the law and move on to other national problems.”
Which is why these idiotic governors need to have the pressure put on them by their constituents to make them ACT on the Affordable Healthcare Act.
First, we have the most low down governor that Florida probably has ever seen. The man has no conscious, no empathy, and no soul. He is strictly from the book of Lord Voldemort. The notorious, Governor Rick Scott.
“Florida will opt out of spending approximately $1.9 billion more taxpayer dollars required to implement a massive entitlement expansion of the Medicaid program,” the office of Gov. Rick Scott (R) said in a statement.
This man has a lot of damn nerve. It was bad enough Floridians voted in a man who made money by scamming the healthcare system, a straight-up
"Slick Rick", but Floridians are on the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to health insurance. In fact, the number of deaths in this state is due to his constituents not having insurance, this is just astounding.
6. Florida
> Excess deaths from a lack of insurance (per 100,000): 12.06
> Pct. of population uninsured: 21.3% (3rd highest)
> Pct. living below the poverty line: 16.5% (16th highest)
> Life expectancy at birth: 79.7 years (12th highest)
The sheer number of excess deaths from a lack of insurance in Florida is staggering: 12,336 from 2005 through 2010. The driving factor for this imposing total is that 21.3% of the population is uninsured — the third-highest rate among all states. Floridians may have difficulty affording health insurance — median income was just $44,400 in 2010. Meanwhile, only 45.7% of residents have employer-based health insurance, while just 15.6% of residents received Medicaid benefits. Both of these rates are among the lowest in the country.
Floridians, you need to start walking in the streets and putting PRESSURE on this governor and that legislature. This is YOUR MONEY, to help YOU. Why should other states get the luxury of health care and you don't because of POLITICS!! Get on it.
Next, we have a straight up "Maleficent" in the one and only, Governor Nikki Haley. South Carolina, do you actually buy this?
“We’re not going to shove more South Carolinians into a broken system that further ties our hands when we know the best way to find South Carolina solutions for South Carolina health problems is through the flexibility that block grants provide,” Rob Godfrey, a spokesperson for Gov. Nikki Haley, told the Post and Courier.
Broken system? Has she taken a look at her state lately? And I mean beyond the Hilton Head Club. Has she seen the starving poverty in her state? The many poor working people with NO INSURANCE. And she got the nerve to say that?
Well, facts be damned, DON'T LIE!!
4. South Carolina
> Excess deaths from a lack of insurance (per 100,000): 13.48
> Pct. of population uninsured: 17.5% (tied for 12th highest)
> Pct. living below the poverty line: 18.2% (7th highest)
> Life expectancy at birth: 76.57 years (9th lowest)
South Carolina is not a particularly healthy state: 67.4% of the state’s residents are either overweight or obese, just 23.3% eat proper amounts of fruit, only 22.9% eat proper amounts of vegetables and 10.7% are diabetic. All of these are among the highest rates in the country. Meanwhile, much of the cost of health care falls to private individuals. The state spends about $6,300 per person on health care in 2009, among the lowest levels, and just 51.9% of residents have employer-based health coverage. Unfortunately, South Carolinians have trouble affording insurance on their own: median income was just $42,000 in 2010, significantly lower than the $50,000 national average, 18.2% of residents live below the poverty line and the cost of health care is higher than many states.
67.4% of South Carolina residents are obese, overweight? That number is one for disaster results which will cause diabetes, hypertension, high blood pressure, heart disease, strokes, just to name a few. And she's turning her nose up and not taking money that can help her constituents?
Health coverage for an estimated half-million of the poorest South Carolinians remains in limbo because Gov. Nikki Haley’s administration has said the state will “opt out” of a provision of the health-care law that would bring more people into the Medicaid program.
South Carolina, WAKE UP!!! Why should Illinois, New York, California, enjoy these benefits while you are dying due to no healthcare services? Get on it.
Then here comes good ol' boy, Governor Bobby Jindal. He has been making the television rounds, sounding ridiculous as ever, but even HE can not deny the state of his citizens in Louisiana. It is atrocious, but he has the nerve to say this?
“We’re not going to start implementing Obamacare,” said Gov. Bobby Jindal (R).
“Every governor’s got two critical decisions to make. One is do we set up these exchanges. And, secondly, do we expand Medicaid. And, no, in Louisiana, we’re not doing either one of those things,” Jindal said on NBC’s “Meet The Press” Sunday. “I don’t think it makes sense to do those. I think it makes more sense to do everything we can to elect Mitt Romney to repeal Obamacare.”
But again, FACT BE DAMNED about
the state of health in Louisiana:
2. Louisiana
> Excess deaths from a lack of insurance (per 100,000): 14.94
> Pct. of population uninsured: 17.8% (10th highest)
> Pct. living below the poverty line: 18.7% (6th highest)
> Life expectancy at birth: 75.39 years (4th lowest)
Louisiana has one of the lowest life expectancies at birth in the U.S. at 75.4 years. Though much of this certainly can be attributed to poor health choices — the state has a higher number of smokers and its residents eat comparatively little fruit or vegetables — the inability of many residents to receive proper care due to lack of insurance is also a contributing factor. In Louisiana, 17.8% of the population goes without health insurance, despite the fact that 21.9% of the population qualifies for Medicaid — the fifth-highest proportion among all 50 states. The high uninsurance rate is partly due to the relative economic disadvantage of the state’s residents. With 18.7% of residents living below the poverty line — the sixth-highest rate in the nation — and a median income that is more than $5,000 lower than the U.S. average, just 58.39% of the population have private insurance. That is the fourth-lowest such rate in the nation.
Almost 20% of the people in Louisiana don't have health insurance and has one of the lowest median incomes in this country. But he won't implement the Affordable Healthcare Act, because of what? To do everything to elect Mitt Romney and repeal this?
And then this, from a neighboring state. Iowa. How this gasbag got into office is beyond me? We, mid-westerners are pretty practical minded, this man is like a bomb about to explode.
“We’re opposed to it and we’re not going to have any part of it,” Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad (R) told the Huffington Post. “But we’re taking our own approach. … But we’re certainly not going to buy into this federal effort. We’re going to fight it in every way we can.”
Iowans, please get this man in check and quick.
Here is the REALITY OF TEXAS on Medicaid:
Medicaid is jointly administered between states and the federal government, and the states are given considerable leeway to set eligibility rules. Texas covers only working adults up to 26 percent of the poverty line. The poverty line for an individual is $11,170. So, you could be a single person making $4,000 a year and you can’t qualify for Medicaid. That’s part of the reason Texas has the highest uninsured rate in the nation.
You read that shit on Texas? The State of Texas believes that making $4000.00 a year does not put you on poverty row, thus you do not qualify for Medicare. No wonder they have the HIGHEST UNINSURED in the United States of America.
The plain fact is that none of these GOP politicians have a healthcare plan. None of them, not from Mitt Romney to your local GOP dog catcher. They don't. Sure, they can holler REPEAL, then it is REPLACE with what, as Norah O'Donnell from CBS' Face the Nation, so swiftly cornered Speaker Boehner on this question. As usual, a soft shoe dance around the question.
Lastly, Mitt Romney's "Etch-A-Sketch" Senior Adviser Eric Fehrnstrom, concurred with the Obama White House that the mandate is not a tax, but a penalty to those who can afford to purchase healthcare insurance but will not. Nuff said on that one. This law is already working in pieces, the GOP will have a lot of nerve to repeal this law. The GOP are reading the public wrong on this one. The public is ready to move on. The Supreme Court has spoken. If the GOP don't understand this, they just may get a shock in November.
Oh, the piece with Chris Wallace from Fox News interviewing Mitch McConnell is telling. Even Wallace had to ask TWICE what will he do with the 30M+ with no health insurance after the repeal. Well, we see he basically said NOTHING. Read more idiotic governors, from Kansas, Missouri, Wisconsin just say NO, right here.
