This isn't going to be a long diary, but I wanted to publicly acknowledge and thank those of you who supported and donated to the tuition fundraiser Yamaneko2 held for me a few weeks back. I would have posted this sooner, but with all the..."distractions"...of late, you can understand how I wanted to wait for a better time to post.
A month or so ago, I ranted in a WYFP diary about how I had 19 cents to my name and I was likely going to have to drop out of college because I wasn't going to be able to get a loan to finish out the remaining 3 semester I had. Yamaneko2 approached me via Kosmail and asked if it was okay for him to do a fundraiser for me via PayPal. Well, I agreed, and the results were more than anything I could have ever imagined.
Frankly, I expected to be laughed off the site. "You want us to help you pay for college? HAHAHAHA no." The response was the exact opposite. I was blown away by how much support you guys gave me.
I got a lot of money from it, but it wasn't enough to cover one of my remaining three semesters. Frankly, I didn't expect it to. I didn't expect to get a hundred dollars, let alone what you guys gave me. After some thinking, I came up with two options:
1) Apply for a smaller student loan for the year in hopes that the fundraiser offset enough to actually let them give it to me.
2) If I didn't get the loan, immediately start refunding everyone their money.
I fully expected to get denied for the loan, and I had already set up a plan on how I was going to get everyone's money back to them. Instead, they approved it.
I'm convinced that I'm able to get back to college because of the generosity and support of this community. Thank you to Yamaneko2 for holding the fundraiser for me. Thank you to everyone who sent money, even if it was just a few dollars. Thank you all of you for your support. I'm deeply grateful to all of you, and I'm determined to pay your generosity forward any chance I can.
Thank you.
