TODAY'S COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION FEATURE:
Show us the art on your walls. One's art says so much about the owner. We'd like to know more about you.
What do you own?
Here's part of my original art collection:
I put this photo into my tip jar yesterday, par example. These are oil paintings my grown daughter Megan did when she was in second grade.
We called her MeGHAN, pronounced like Gauguin.
She went on to graduate from UCLA with an art degree and now I have these on my walls:
My grandson, Sequoia and Megan's rendering of him.
My grandson, Nick and Megan's rendering of him.
She has so much more but has taken it all with her to Southern California where she lives now. The good stuff. ;)
This is a double-truck ad for the Nordstrom Horton Plaza store opening back in the early 80s.
I negotiated the use of the Anne Klein designer suit sample from New York
My daughter Rachel modeled the Ralph Lauren outfit on the right.
Our walls display tons of photos. Does this surprise you?
One display
A closeup from that display. My daughter Rachel's marriage to my favorite son-in-law, Sean. It was my finest event ever. A Hawaiian theme with Tahitian dancers, kick-ass-chic luau food and much aloha. I had fresh flower leis flown in from Hawaii. Rachel is wearing Jean Paul Gaultier and Sean is wearing a family heirloom turquoise bolo tie that my grandfather gave to my father. My mother gave it to me after my father died.
I have several Navajo wedding baskets around the house. All made by my cousin May. (Who still lives in a hogan without running water or electricity. Just say'in.)
This is a little display I made after one of my buying trips to the Donna Karen showroom back in the 80s.
One closeup from that. I took this photo of Megan and mimic'd the famous Marilyn Monroe photo of her daubing Chanel No.5 on her neck. What spurred this is a teeny-tiney Chanel sample left in a schwag bag from a fashion show I had just completed. The tiny perfume sample made me think of tiny Megan and her blond curls. Parfait? N'est ce pas?
Next, old family photos from the Rez. Featuring my beloved grandfather, my uncle, my mother plus aunts and others.
I mounted all the art posted here today except for Megan's canvas pieces. This is a tiny but lovely rug I bought on the Rez. I put it in a museum style shadow box. Lo' and behold a few months later... an ant hatched from it. Look down at the very bottom. Do you see a tiny speck?
Well, it's this:
A Rez ant. A "wol-la-chee," in Navajo. The word the Code Talkers used for the letter A in their unbreakable code used in World War II.
And finally, a beautiful piece of wood working art incorporating my favorite stone, turquoiose. This lives in our entry way.
What's on your walls?

Our last-minute SFKossack event has shaped up quite nicely. Steveningen works at the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo. His facility will cater the event. Steven and I will cover this cost for all of you. We will need help with wine and beer.
Transportation Instructions:
Getting to Vallejo from the City is done one of two ways. There is the ferry and accompanying bus lines that run from the Ferry Building. Plan an hour but a very very pleasant ride.
There is BART to El Cerrito Del Norte station and a bus that runs every twenty minutes to Vallejo which is about an additional 15 minute ride.
For people relying on public transportation to get to the campus, Brian and I could certainly meet people and drive them to campus and take them back to the terminal.
There should be enough drivers going who can stop by any of the terminals and pick people up.
Other options are to take BART to stations near drivers' homes where you can be picked up.
It is noted if you don't have a car, we'll get you there. Tell us in the comments what your needs are.
