Just when you think the lazy Village news media can't get any worse: "Bain Boating".
The Obama campaign is going retro, circa 2004. Back then, President Bush supporters attacked then-Democratic candidate John Kerry on what was supposed to be Kerry's greatest strength -- his military service. A group known as the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth undermined that strength, calling into question Kerry's credentials and military awards. And thus was born "swiftboating" -- a term used to describe unfair or untrue political attacks.
The latest wave of Obama attacks is like Bain boating. The president's re-election campaign is armed with surrogates tasked with specific duties, making the case early and often that voters should be questioning Mitt Romney's taxes, off-shore accounts, and his record at Bain Capital. They are probing for different weaknesses, and aggressively attacking Romney at a time when voters should be talking about negative job numbers.
The above is from the lazy idiots "covering" the campaign for an online Yahoo! and ABC News partnership. They aren't the only ones bringing up the Swiftboat Liars this way, and, as soon as the Romney campaign starts repeating it, thank you Village, I'm sure it's going to be the next great atttempt to get Romney back on the road to freely being able to lie and bullshit the American people into a second Gilded Age.
How the flying holy fuck does anybody get any comparison between what happened with the Swiftboat liars for Bush, who made up a bunch of total bullshit about John Kerry and his war record, and the President accurately describing Mitt Romney and his Bain era business practices?
How?
The only explanation is... bad faith in the service of getting their horserace back on.
Obama isn't making shit up about Mitt Romney.
Jerome Corsi and his merry band of mendacious fucks were making shit up, out of whole cloth, about John Kerry.
This is a new media low in water carrying for the Republican Party, and it's infuriating how quickly this bogus meme has spread over the wire services and basic cable news outlets over the last 24 hours.
Words matter. Facts matter.
Swiftboating isn't attacking somebody on their strengths. That's a nice way of mixing whitewashing with revisionist history. Attacking somebody on their strengths is the essense of Rove/Atwaterism, but it was never the foundation of why Jerome Corsi and his gaggle of shameless ratfucking liars did. They had been professionally trying to smear John Kerry with the same lies for over 20 years before the 2004 election. It was an agenda that dated back to Kerry's first Massachusetts Senate campaign.
Swiftboating, at its core, is blatantly and mendaciously lying about something you cannot otherwise rebut honestly with facts.
Barack Obama hasn't lied here. Not once. Not ever. He isn't making an unfair made-up attack.
This is the Village helping the Right to lie to the American people.
Just when you think the media can't get any lazier, stupider, or more useless in a national discussion, they pretty much decide that maybe Obama is having too much success and might be fucking up their horserace wankfest too early for their liking.
So. How can we throw a fraudulent meme into the fight? To "even the odds" of keeping the race back and forth because national elections are the media's favorite reality tv show.
"Bain Boating" comes up. Swiftboating is applied to a scenario where there is no comparison between the two events.
Disgusting.
And exactly why so many media outlets are dying these days. The laziness and the malignant self-interest has gone from cloying to toxic. A mix of stenography and an assault on reason and facts disguised as "journalism".
