This is going to be really short. Tomorrow, Governor Brown and Interior Secretary Salazar will be announcing the new and improved (not) BDCP. This is the plan to circumvent the Delta and build the capability to divert 15,000 CFS (cubic feet a second) of the Sacramento River south. There was already a planned demonstration at the Capitol for 12:30. Word just came out where the announcement will be made. From Restore The Delta http://www.restorethedelta.org/
Governor Brown will be making his announcement on Wednesday with Secretary Ken Salazar at 10:30 am in the Resources Building. Prior to our noon rally, please join us at 10 am outside the Resources Building with your signs for a pre-rally response to the announcement. The Natural Resources Agency Building is at 1416 Ninth Street, Sacramento, CA 95814, The announcement will be made in Room 1131.
The main protest will take place at 12:30.
West Steps of the Capitol at noon on
Wednesday, July 25, 2012.
*Arrival time is 12:00pm, speakers will begin at 12:30pm
Governor Brown's plan, an enormous mistake, would exterminate salmon runs, destroy sustainable Delta family farms and saddle taxpayers with tens of billions in debt, mainly to benefit a small number of growers on the west side of the Central Valley.
Ironically, we anticipate that he will try to sell his plan to California water rate payers and tax payers as a new "process" to save and restore the Delta. Join us as we let him know that the best way to restore the Delta is to fix the levees, reduce water exports, restore flows through the Delta, and support water projects throughout California that will make all regions water self sufficient.
Featured speakers:
U.S. Rep. John Garamendi; Sen. Lois Wolk; Assemblymember Bill Berryhill; Mayor Ann Johnston, Stockton; Jim Metropulos, Sierra Club; Jonas Minton, Planning and Conservation League; Zeke Grader, Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen's Associations; Bill Jennings, California Sportfishing Protection Alliance; Kristin Lynch, Food & Water Watch;Nick di Croce, Environmental Water Caucus; Conner Everts, Southern California Watershed Alliance; John Herrick, South Delta Water Agency
If you can make it to the Capitol, we sure would appreciate your support.
