Another hot day under the belt!
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
It's hot. And there are wild fires all along the south side of Oklahoma City. I have friends in the way, friends with pooties and woozles. And because I lack air conditioning in my house, I can't offer them crash space. It's too hot in my house for them. I only have one room that's cooled and the window unit only cools it down to 80 or 85 - too warm for most people's comfort, too warm for pootie comfort - Itzl and Xoco are desert dogs, they're OK at 85, but not happy at 90 and up. Plus, my bedroom is really small.
I feel bad about not being able to offer them space until they can return home.
On the happy side - they are my friends and I've preached survivalism at them for so long and made sure they all had go-bags and back-ups and home inventories and suitable carriers for pooties and pootie go bags and all that, plus made them do evacuation drills so when they had to evacuate, they were able to do so well within the hour limit they were given with all th essentials.
I'm sad they had to evacuate, and I hope their homes will still be there when they return.
