Shouldered with a burden they never asked for, the Penn State administration, faculty and students continue to keep the focus on victims. The second annual "Blue Out" game will be held September 22nd at Beaver Stadium.
And I, for one, plan on attending.
It's very easy to sit back and criticize Penn State as a whole; to point our fingers and blame the football culture for the cover-up. But it is important to keep in mind that Penn State just served as the backdrop for this travesty. Child sex abuse and cover-up is a REAL problem in our society and happens in many cities, universities, organizations, communities, families -
In Other Cities - Edward Savitz, Philadelphia
In other Universities - University City of Oxford, England
In Other Sports Programs - Bernie Fine, Syracuse University
In The Catholic Church
In The Jewish Population
In The Boy Scouts
In Our Elementary Schools - Miramonte
In Private schools - Horace Mann
In the Olympics
In Professional Baseball
In the Hall of Fame
In Communities by "respected members"
In families
In MY family
Penn State just happens to be the vehicle through which THIS serial pedophile was able to operate.
Penn State - Doing Some Things RIGHT!
Penn State is the only one who is standing up and being accountable. Rodney Erickson, the Board of Trustees, Faculty, Staff and Students are not only handling this with grace, they are actively raising awareness of child sexual abuse and putting their money where their mouth is.
First Annual Blue Out Game - November 12, 2011
In the wake of the devastating revelations of child sexual abuse and cover-up, while the national media focused on Joe Paterno's firing and subsequent rabble rousing by a few drunk students, the student body (who often show a maturity some professionals lack), remained solely focused on the young boys (now men) who were sexually abused.
[November 11, 2011] students are now organizing a "blue-out" to raise money for the Blue Ribbon Campaign against child abuse and Prevent Child Abuse Pennsylvania.
According to the student-run Daily Collegian, the store selling "Blue Out" T-shirts to raise money for Prevent Child Abuse Pennsylvania has sold thousands and will likely be out of them by the end of today.
Second Annual Blue Out Game - September 22, 2012
[2012] STATE COLLEGE, PA. (AP)
Penn State has designated the Sept. 22 game against Temple as its second annual ''Blue Out'' game to show solidarity with victims and survivors of child sexual abuse
Fans are being encouraged to wear blue, while donations will be collected around Beaver Stadium for the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape. Students are organizing Blue Out activities
Alumni Raises Money for RAINN
Additionally, Penn State alumni started a campaign in 2011 and have raised to date, almost $550,000 to support RAINN.

I applaud Penn State on their continued focus on the issue of child sexual abuse. Perhaps we can stop demonizing the students, staff and faculty who, in the face of the greatest adversity, continue doing some things right. It is also important to remember, in a population of 96,519 [Penn State's total enrollment 2012], statistics show that there are potentially 19,000 victims/survivors. One alumni shares his story
It is easy to point fingers and say "look what they're doing wrong," but I choose, instead, to look at what they're doing RIGHT.
They are a community reeling from events many had no part in. Those that were culpable will have their day in court, but for the thousands who continue putting one foot in front of the other, let's offer them our support when we catch them doing something right.
2:10 PM PT: I just received a call from a Penn State Alumni - a gentleman who I met in court, who returned from lunch with a donation for the charity, a gentleman who later shared his story with me, allowed me to share his story with you, a gentleman who just called me and said "tell me how many tickets you need and I'll make it happen."
I will be at the Blue Out game...and this just goes to show the true spirit of this University.
He is...Penn State
5:47 PM PT: If anyone is interested in attending the game - go to www.GoPSUsports.com/tickets
or call 1-800-648-8269 (1-800-NITTANY) weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The pricing of 2012 Penn State football game tickets and accompanying donation levels is the same as in 2011.
Temple, Sept. 22 – Blue Out and All-University Day
The Sept. 22 game vs. Temple will feature multiple highlights including All-University Day and fans are encouraged to wear blue.
