(My thanks to hungycoyote for bringing this up)
Hey, does anyone remember Clint Eastwood? Mr. Tough Guy? Good old Dirty Harry who wanted us to make his day and then became this hotshot movie director who made manipulative movies like Million Dollar Baby to snatch a few Academy Awards? Well here's another title for him. BIG FAT HYPOCRITE. Follow me...
You see, it was only eight months ago when Mr. Eastwood made a television commercial which got everyone talking the next day. It was the infamous "Halftime In America" commercial for Chrysler automobiles. Here it is if you want a refresher:
http://www.youtube.com/...
In the moving ad, Mr. Eastwood says,
It’s halftime in America, too. People are out of work and they’re hurting. And they’re all wondering what they’re going to do to make a comeback. And we’re all scared, because this isn’t a game. The people of Detroit know a little something about this. They almost lost everything. But we all pulled together, now Motor City is fighting again.
I’ve seen a lot of tough eras, a lot of downturns in my life. And, times when we didn’t understand each other. It seems like we’ve lost our heart at times. When the fog of division, discord, and blame made it hard to see what lies ahead.
But after those trials, we all rallied around what was right, and acted as one. Because that’s what we do. We find a way through tough times, and if we can’t find a way, then we’ll make one.
Mr. Eastwood is right when he says these moving statements. Detroit is fighting and winning. So it came as a complete shock to see this headline in the Washington Post:
Clint Eastwood endorses Romney’s presidential bid
http://www.washingtonpost.com/...
SAY WHAT??? I was certain that maybe he misspoke. After all, it was Romney who was infamous for his NY Times op-ed where he said to let Detroit go bankrupt, and it was the credit of the Obama administration who was not only responsible for saving thousands of Detroit jobs but also making Chrysler and GM profitable again. Heck, the US Government even managed to make a profit in the long run. So I was again taken back when the Hollywood hack said,
He’s going to restore a decent tax system that we need badly so that there is a fairness and people are not pitted against one another of whose paying taxes and who isn’t.
And topped it off by saying,
He told the crowd that he planned for vote for Romney, whose leadership is “now more important than ever.”
WTF??? I would love to ask Mr. Eastwood what leader examples Mr. Romney has shown. When he says how Mitt will restore a a tax system where people will not be pitted against each other, what example can he quote? How can he say that when Mr. Romney's leadership include hidden Swiss bank accounts and offshore Cayman Island accounts? Of how he claims to have a basement in a house in Massachusetts as a primary residence? When he won't release his tax returns like his opponents have? When independent accounting offices show that Romney's tax plan gives millionaires and corporations huge breaks at the expense of the middle class, how does that a fair tax system so we're not pitted against each other?
If you can possibly explain any of this claptrap Mr Eastwood, I dare you. Go ahead, make my day.
