Tonight we're liveblogging primary results in four states: Michigan (polls close at 8pm ET), Missouri (8pm), Kansas (9pm), and Washington (11pm). Our writeup of all the key federal and statewide races can be found
here. For an excellent, comprehensive summary of the key state Senate races in Kansas, check out
ptgkc's post.
Results: Kansas | Michigan | Missouri | Washington
6:19 PM PT: Polls, by the way, closed a little while ago in Kansas. Again, you'll want to check out ptgkc's diary for the list of key Senate primaries.
6:27 PM PT: Votes aren't being counted with any particular alacrity in Missouri, where we're now up to just 4% tallied statewide. It's 35-31-19 Akin-Brunner-Steelman.
6:38 PM PT: 4%'s been counted in MI-13 (D), and Rep. John Conyers is at just 38%. If this holds, though, he'll just barely survive thanks to the clown-car effect, since his nearest challenger, Glenn Anderson, is at 24. But it's still very early.
6:40 PM PT: Next door in MI-14 (D), Rep. Gary Peters is out to a monster but very early (3% counted) lead, 67-21 over fellow Rep. Hansen Clarke. Note that this actually includes a sizable edge in a few precincts in Wayne County (Detroit), where Clarke would have to do well in order to have a shot.
6:41 PM PT: We've shot up to 10% counted in MO-Sen (R) and Akin remains in first, but Steelman has jumped into second. It's 34-31-30 Akin/Steelman/Brunner.
6:46 PM PT: The AP calls MI-06 (R) for Rep. Fred Upton. He's still crushing Jack Hoogendyk 2-to-1.
6:49 PM PT: MI-03 (D) is now up to 37%, and Steve Pestka holds a 12-point lead over Trevor Thomas.
6:52 PM PT (Steve Singiser): It's still reasonably early, but there is a potential story brewing downballot in the Sunflower State. At present, a total of six Republican incumbent state senators are trailing their challengers in a series of contested primaries. Anyone who has even read Thomas Frank's "What's the Matter with Kansas?" knows well about the schism in the Kansas Republican Party between moderates and conservatives. It seems to be coming to a head in a real way tonight.
6:56 PM PT: In MI-11 (R), Kerry Bentivolio is maintaining a big 2-to-1 lead over "Total Write-In" with 26% reporting. On the Dem side, Syed Taj also has a healthy 60-40 lead over LaRouchie nutbag Bill Roberts.
6:58 PM PT: As expected, MO-Gov (R) has been called for wealthy businessman Dave Spence. He'll face Dem Gov. Jay Nixon in November.
7:00 PM PT: MI-Sen (R) has been called for ex-Rep. Pete Hoekstra, as expected. He'll face Dem Sen. Debbie Stabenow in November.
7:02 PM PT: John Conyers clearly just hit a pocket of strength, since he's exploded out to a big 57-13 lead with 29% counted in MI-13. But Gary Peters is still smashing in MI-14.
7:05 PM PT (David Jarman): Hey, did you now there's an honest-to-gosh state Representative running in the Republican primary for the unenviable task of running against Emanuel Cleaver in the solid-blue MO-05? You didn't? Well, apparently, neither did anyone else, as Jerry Nolte is losing 51-34 to 2010 loser/perennial candidate/tea partier Jacob Turk.
7:07 PM PT: It looks like Democrats are getting what they wanted in MI-11, with Bentivolio and Taj both winning at the moment. Question: Will the NRCC spend on behalf of Bentivolio? He's not just a Paulist but also a crypto-truther.
7:10 PM PT: We're now up to 31% counted and Akin's lead in MO-Sen is holding. It's 35-30-29 Akin-Steelman-Brunner. Brunner spent like $8 mil of his own money, and he might finish third....
7:13 PM PT: The liveblog continues here.
