TPM is reporting this morning that a new Mason Dixon poll has Missouri Republican Todd Akin down by nine points, 41-50, to Democratic incumbent Claire McCaskill. This confirms the Rasmussen poll released earlier in the week, which many of us greeted with skepticism, that had Akin down by ten points in the wake of his outrageous and offensive comments regarding rape and female reproductive biology. In Mason Dixon's previous poll, a month ago, Akin held a five point lead, so this is plus 14 for the Democrat -- widely perceived as the most vulnerable Democratic incumbent in the Senate.
McCaskill is up among women 55-37, Akin's favorability is down to 17%, and 47% of Missourians think he should drop out of the race. Even forty percent of Democrats think he should drop out.
