Ha! The Romney campaign has been saying the president can't take a joke, and the campaign needs a little humor. How do they like this ad?
9:24 AM PT: The Source of this ad is now confirmed by CBS News. As, always, the Hounddog is on the trail. Bwa, ha, ha, woof, woof!

(CBS News) Seizing on an uncharacteristic joke Mitt Romney made Friday about the president's birth certificate, the Obama campaign is out with a new web ad arguing, "America doesn't need a Birther-in-Chief."
"Holding out hope Romney had a vision for the middle class? Think again," a voice in the ad says, introducing a clip of the presumptive Republican nominee at a rally Friday in his home state of Michigan. While celebrating his roots, Romney abandoned his typically dogged refusal to engage "unfounded conspiracy theories," the ad calls them, that the president wasn't born in the United States.
"I love being home in the place where Ann and I were born and raised, where both of us were born," Romney said Friday. "Ann was born in Henry Ford Hospital; I was born in Harper Hospital. No one's ever asked to see my birth certificate. They know that this is the place that we were born and raised."
(Watch: Romney: "No one's ever asked to see my birth certificate.")
Following the rally, Romney said in an interview with CBS News' Scott Pelley that the remark was merely "a little humor," and wasn't meant as a tossed bone to the far right wing of the party. Despite his alliance with Donald Trump - perhaps the most outspoken "birther" of all - Romney has maintained his disagreement with the real estate tycoon on the issue.
9:30 AM PT: I thought I had a breaking scoop here, but Democratic Underground has had this up since late last night. But, notice a very interesting comment under the video. Someone has written in to say that Mitt Romney is using a famous KKK Quote in his campaign rallies, "Keep America, American!"
And, provides a link I'm still tracking down. Will keep you posted.

9:40 AM PT: I tracked down the KKK reference in the comments of the Democratic UnderGround use of the above video, and Brian Seltzer of the NYT Blog says there's a difference. The KKK slogus is "Keep America American," while Mitt Romney's slogus is "Keep America America," so is can't be compared. This seems to me as if it might be splitting hairs, as it seems to be resorting to the same sentiment, but that would be best left to a different post. But, this video above does seem to be authentic.

Romney Ku Klux Klan Report Backfires on Media
By BRIAN STELTER
Don’t just repeat it. Report it.
That’s the lesson this week for MSNBC and for The Washington Post, both of which apologized for repeating a liberal blog’s claim that Mitt Romney had uttered a phrase on the campaign stump that was used in the past by the Ku Klux Klan.
It appears that Mr. Romney did not in fact say the words “keep America American,” as AMERICAblog reported on Tuesday. The blog said that he had done so on two occasions, one last year and one last week, and stated (accurately) that “Keep America American” was a phrase employed by the K.K.K. in the 1920s.
But Mr. Romney had actually said “keep America America” on both occasions, according to online video.
MSNBC apparently did not contact the Romney campaign for comment before it briefly reported on Wednesday morning that “you may not hear Mitt Romney say ‘Keep America American’ anymore, because it was a rallying cry for the K.K.K. group.” The anchor credited AMERICAblog; the graphic on the screen read, “Romney’s KKK Slogan?”
10:25 AM PT: Look what a weasel this Mitt Romney is.
Look what a weasel this Mitt Romney is. "No, No this is not a swipe?"
No, he was just pointing out the hospital where he was born. Ya, right.
"No, one needs to ask for my birth certificate?" What did you mean by that Mitt, that when you go to the DMV for your license they let you use the honor system like you want us to do on your tax returns? Special rules apply to you. bull pies.
This was Mitt using dog whistles, on purpose. He was a minister on a two year mission in France, He is practiced at thinking about how what he says is coming across to an audience, and uses every trick in the book to win an in.
That's also why I'm not so sure he should be let off the hook on his Keep America, America" comment, that is not a subtle use of the "Keep America, American" the KKK uses, I suspect he knows what he is doing, and while perhaps, "as far as I know" being racist himself, he is making a conscious play for this audience.
Anyone having doubts about this look at his invitation to Donald Trump to play this mystery role in Tampa. This is after he and all his staff have had half a year to know what Trump is all about, what we accuse of doing (using the birther meme, as a dog whistle for the racists) and yet Trump is still part of the gang, doing his work on the side. But, is Romney doing this "No, No, this is not a dog whistle."
The man is a sleeze ball, con-man, "bless his heart," who will say or doing anything to be president. -- but, as my Mom says, "I mean this in the nicest possible way!"

Obama campaign web ad: ‘America doesn’t need a ‘birther-in-chief’
By Jonathan Easley - 08/25/12 11:06 AM ET
The Obama campaign is not giving Mitt Romney a pass on his “birther” joke, releasing a web video on Saturday saying “America doesn’t need a birther-in-chief.”
“Holding out hope Romney had a vision for the middle class?,” The narrator says in the short web video. “Think again. Embracing unfounded conspiracy theories, distracting from real issues. America doesn’t need a birther-in-chief.”
“No, no, not a swipe,” Romney told CBS News. “I've said throughout the campaign and before, there's no question about where he was born. He was born in the U.S. This was fun about us, and coming home. And humor, you know — we've got to have a little humor in a campaign.”
And while the president has himself joked about the conspiracy theory, Obama press secretary Ben LaBolt says it’s not a joke coming from the Romney campaign.
“Governor Romney’s decision to directly enlist himself in the birther movement should give pause to any rational voter across America,” LaBolt said Friday, before alleging that Romney has “embraced the most strident voices in his party instead of standing up to them.”
PS Some one asked in the comments if I meant this as a swipe at Romney? No!.. No... don't be ridiculous, I was just passing on news clips in a helpful way, as I always do. I'm just a cudely little Hounddog, Not, one of those nasty pit bulls. Woof! woof! What? Me engage in partisan politics? Don't be silly.
