RNC dude (didnt catch his name) calling for Rules to be submitted.
Boehner calls for a Yay/Nay vote. Nay's Overwhelm Yay. Boehner passes rules.
Crowd boos. Chants. Mics appear to have been cut.
Governor McDonald comes on: (as his voice breaks): Thanking people.. yadda yadda....
1:29 PM PT: McDonald: Platform is our values. A Blueprint for a seachange and the way government works. Solutions for families without savings, neighborhoods without hope. Addresses the elerly worried about Medicare... tells the Truth about Medicare
1:31 PM PT: Mcdonald: Defends sanctity of human life, religious freedom, modifies Medicare... an invitation to every American on what kind of country we want to be. Blah blah blah... blah.
We invite citizens to consider this platform. Something something stagnant something. Man this guys boring... And that background is horrible.
"Ladies and gentlement...this is your platform and I urge its adoption
1:33 PM PT: McDonald introduces Governor John Hogan. 3 crowd members seems to actually know who he is. That is a high estimate.
Hogan: OUr plan is built on the strength (maybe he meant backs) of the American people. At the heart of it is job creation. What americans want is opportunity. It begins with a good job.
1:35 PM PT: http://www.nydailynews.com/...
Livestream
Hogans still bitchin and moaning about Obama. Apparently Americans want energy to fuel their cars and a good life (deep thinker this guy is). We can provide this opportunity, if we focus on job growth and economic opportunity. Crossroads of history. We offer a brighter alternative. May god bless the USA
1:37 PM PT: Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee:
Thank you so much. Cochairing your platform committee has been an honor and a lot of work and a lot of fun.
I must admit to liking her accent. Anyways... shes not saying anything important so just pretend Im talking with a twinge and saying how great the GOP is. The Great Opportunity Party (two people clap). Get America back to work... if you want to know how we are going to get the UNLIMITED ENERGY to power this country, if you are alarmed by our declining position in the world and wonering what we are going to do to reverse it, then read this platform.
1:39 PM PT: Commitment to Federalism where the states take the lead. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are going to get us back on track... go read the platform. Blah blah blah.
1:40 PM PT: Boehner puts up the motion... Aye/Nay. Ayes clearly have it. Motion is agreed to. Motion to reconsider laid upon the table.
RNC PR BS Is now up:
1:42 PM PT: I missed what the Wisconsin delegate is talking about. Ayes have it. Chair recognizes Florida delegates. Really boring stuff, I want more yelling at Boehner.
1:43 PM PT: Group photo... LoL. #rncprom continues
1:44 PM PT: 'yes we're ready to shoot these people'. These people sure do love their guns.
1:46 PM PT: Apparently its break time and the only non-boring event was Boehner dismissing the obvious Nay vote for the rule change and shuffling off in a hurry.
1:53 PM PT: Boring music. Boring Dancers. The whitest crowd Ive seen since.. well whatever Romney's last event was.
1:55 PM PT: Apparently Maine has left the building. Any more info or updates people find interest, feel free to post and I will add to the diary.
1:57 PM PT: Boehner is back.
Some clapping. Some yelling.
Important statement to remind the delegates of the rules. Each candidate for nomination demonstrates sufficient support prior to the nomination. Chair informs the delegates it has been furnished in a timely manner who will be presented for president/vp. Also the total time for nominating speeches should not exceed 15 minutes. Has been a custom to prevent the chair from recognizing non delegates.
Chair recognizes JOhn Sununu (spelling?) of NH.
1:59 PM PT: John: In these times America needs a leader. Our economy is stagnant, confidence is down. Saddled with a failed presidency, incumbent president who has not lead. America needs real change. We are here to affirm a leader who will produce it. America needs Romney at the helm. 23 million americans unemployed because Obama cannot figure out what makes free enterprise work. (applause break... there was none).
'They really did build it' (the entrepreneurs). In these difficult times our nation still depends on others for our energy even though we have the largest supplies in the world. Romney will UNSHACKLE these chains.
We are also a nation that has seen erosion of respect around the world. Obama leads from behind. Romney will restore our strength, face our foes, regain respect for America willing to lead.
2:01 PM PT: My wife and I have gotten to know the Romneys. We appreciate them. We like and respect them. Tonight we are gathered here to put into motion the final phase of our campaign to help America know them better and appreciate why our nation needs them as our president and first lady. Romney is a good man. Romney is a smart man. He is compassionate and generous. A great father and supportive friend. Very succssful business man and governor. He knows how to fix the unfixable. Romney is the right man at the right time and will be a great leader for our country. (light applause).
My honor to nominate Mitt Romney.
