PPP released a
poll of the Connecticut Senate race today, commissioned by the League of Conservation Voters and conducted last week, finding that the race between Democratic Rep. Chris Murphy and Republican wrestling mogul Linda McMahon is very close. That echoes Tuesday's
Quinnipiac poll, but with a reversed lead.
This PPP poll, conducted last week among registered voters, gives Murphy the edge, 48-44. That's just outside the poll's 3.3 margin of error. Note, as David Nir pointed out earlier, that this poll was among registered voters rather than likely voters, "which tends to produce a Dem-friendlier sample." Yesterday's Q poll had McMahon over Murphy 49-46, a result they call too close to call with a 2.6 point margin of error.
The bottom line is that this race is very close, with very few undecided voters up for grabs. McMahon has been spending insane amounts of money trying to burnish her image and to attack Chris Murphy. In fact, her big ad buy against Murphy began even before she won her primary.
McMahon's money might be helping people forget how much they disliked her two years ago, but with enough opportunity, Murphy can remind them and close this one out.
