So we all know that it is never a good sign when your surrogates have to spend the whole next day defending blatant lies in your speech -- meet Paul Ryan, whose surrogates are out etch-a-sketching the Paul Ryan speech which even a Fox News Article said Ryan wins the "Greatest Number of Blatant Lies" Award.
Today Eric Ferhnstrom, Senior Etch-A-Sketch Adviser for Mitt Romney, was on CNN and, naturally, lied about what President Obama factual said in Janesville in February 2008.
Fehrnstrom: "he [President Obama] said was with his recovery program, with government assistance, we can keep that plant open for 100 years.
~Eric Fehrnstrom, Romney Sr. Adviser on CNN 8/30/2012
Ok, so that's another Blatant Romney Campaign Lie.
But, let's dissect the part of Paul Ryan's comment where Ryan accidentally admits Bush failed Janesville and President Obama was SPOT ON!
Ryan: candidate Obama said “I believe that if our government is there to support you … this plant will be here for another hundred years.” That’s what he said in 2008.
Well, as it turned out, that plant didn’t last another year. It is locked up and empty to this day. And that’s how it is in so many towns today ....
Notice A Few Things:
1) Paul Ryan is saying that candidate
Obama was correct and that
since government did
not help the Janesville auto plant between the time candidate Obama said that (Feb 2008) and the time the Plant closed (Dec 2008) the plant
did close.
2) Ryan admits that Bush failed to get Republicans in Congress to pass Bush's Auto Bailout Bill which candidate Obama said would have saved the Janesville Plant. Therefore, Bush failed Janesville, not candidate Obama.
3) Ryan is admitting that the GOP Tea-Taliban stalwart message "Free Market cures all economic woes" is wrong and President Obama is correct, even in Janesville, "you did not build that on your own."
4) Ryan admits he supports Government Bailouts.
5) I intentionally left out the last part of the sentence where Ryan blatantly lies and falsely blamed Obama.
Amazing as it is, Ryan is admitting, in the first part of his comment, that the 2008 Auto Bailout Bill, which GOP Senate rejected, may have saved the Janesville plant as candidate Obama had implored Congress to do in February 2008 during his Janesville rally.
OBAMA: And I believe that if our government is there to support you, and give you the assistance you need to re-tool and make this transition, that this plant will be here for another hundred years. The question is not whether a clean energy economy is in our future, it’s where it will thrive. I want it to thrive …
candidate Obama, February 13, 2008, Janesville, Wisconsin
I want you to take keen notice that no where in candidate Obama's speech did he promise nor imply a promise that "
his recovery program would keep that plant open" as Eric Fehrnstrom falsely claimed to CNN this morning.
Now it is time I provide Ryan's complete sentence -- which, in complete form, makes what Paul Ryan said a blatant lie.
RYAN: candidate Obama said: "I believe that if our government is there to support you ... this plant will be here for another hundred years." That's what he said in 2008.
Well, as it turned out, that plant didn't last another year. It is locked up and empty to this day. And that's how it is in so many towns today, where the recovery that was promised is nowhere in sight.
Damn, and Ryan came sooooo close to not being a GD liar on that point ... sooooo close! I suppose his "
Karl Rove Lie & Lie BIG Training" got the better of him.
Oh, well, I shall still relish the notion that Paul Ryan accidentally blamed Bush & GOP in Congress for the Janesville Plant closing.
