Welcome to the Tuesday Coffee Hour here on Street Prophets. This is an open thread where we can hang out and talk about what’s going on in our worlds. In many of the world’s spiritual and religious traditions, visions play an important role. Some of those who received visions—Mohammad, Handsome Lake, Joseph Smith, Wovoka, and many others—created new religions based on their visions.
We don’t know exactly when Zoroaster (also known as Zarathustra) lived, but it appears that he lived in a Bronze Age culture in Northeast Iran or Southwest Afghanistan. When he was about 30 years old, he went into the Daiti River to draw water for a ceremony and when he came out of the river he had a vision which radically transformed his view of the world.
According to his vision, there was only one god worthy of worship and the deities of the old religion that delighted in war and strife were evil spirits working against this god. Ahura Mazda is the beginning and the end, the creator of everything that can and cannot be seen, and the only true god.
What visions have you had recently? Any plans to start a new religion? This is an open thread: feel free to discuss what’s going on in your life (visions not required).
