This right here displays why the Republican Party is completely lost, over the hill, down in the valley and now has no way back out of the briar patch.
First you have Conservative Columnist Peggy Noonan who, surprisingly, makes the correct assessment that if Romney get yoked to the policies of George W. Bush, his campaign is doomed.
Then Bill Bennett pipes up with a set of back-to-back whoppers that clearly cause both Noonan and E.J. Dionne to stare in furrowed brow/slacked jawed astonishment.

Noonan: Romney can't afford to be painted as bringing that [Bush] stuff back.
And then Bill Bennet chimes in and the wheels come off the Winebago in a hurry.
Bennet: Lest this become unanimous, Let me put it this way. We don't throw out the whole 8 years. Bush won the Iraq War. (Against who, Al Qeada? The Iraqis?) Bush did a lot of fine things. (Like Torture? Warrantless Surveillance?) He can seperate himself from Bush policy particularly in the last couple of years. He's done so by having Paul Ryan there. He was a critic of Bush Spending (No, he wasn't he voted for every bit of it!!) He was a critic of Obama Spending (Which was just a continuation of the Bush Spending Ryan Voted For!)
There's a recent survey, ask people if they would prefer a bigger government with more services or a bigger economy with more jobs (Which is a false choice see Clinton era!) 75-15 Bigger Economy with more jobs (Except for Police, Firefighter and Teacher jobs) Conservatives have families, they believe in families. They work.
And by the way this rack of a lack of compassion for people who are suffering. Why in every study, every survey, self-identified conservatives give more of their time, more of their money, more of their blood and treasure to help people?
You mean like the way they "Helped" the people of Iraq by giving the blood and treasure of our Troops?
The expressions on Noonan's and Dionne's faces as he talks are just priceless.
And by the way... not Every Study says that. Not this one from Forbes.
“We found that while both Republicans and Democrats tend to equally value justice and caring for the vulnerable, Republicans place a much higher value on issues of purity and respect for authority,” said Karen Page Winterich, study co-author and assistant professor of marketing at Pennsylvania State University. “Given these differences, Republicans are more inclined to donate to a charity when these values of purity and respect are met, whereas Democrats are more inclined to donate when the emphasis is purely on equality or protection rather than respect or purity.”
In other words, Conservatives give to people
they Like, and Liberals give to people
who Need It.
There is some evidence to support this claim according to George Will.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/...
-- Although liberal families' incomes average 6 percent higher than those of conservative families, conservative-headed households give, on average, 30 percent more to charity than the average liberal-headed household ($1,600 per year vs. $1,227).
-- Conservatives also donate more time and give more blood.
-- Residents of the states that voted for John Kerry in 2004 gave smaller percentages of their incomes to charity than did residents of states that voted for George Bush.
But I wonder does this study also note that most Liberals live in
Donor States, while Conservatives live in
Beneficiary States that have a greater need for these types of direct charitable giving that isn't quite a neccessary in places like California or New York?
Nick Kristof has challenged the claims noted by Will by pointing out that when you excluded churches - the results reverse.
When liberals see the data on giving, they tend to protest that conservatives look good only because they shower dollars on churches — that a fair amount of that money isn’t helping the poor, but simply constructing lavish spires.
It’s true that religion is the essential reason conservatives give more, and religious liberals are as generous as religious conservatives. Among the stingiest of the stingy are secular conservatives.
According to Google’s figures, if donations to all religious organizations are excluded, liberals give slightly more to charity than conservatives do. But Mr. Brooks says that if measuring by the percentage of income given, conservatives are more generous than liberals even to secular causes.
So I wouldn't say "Every" Study, Mr. Bennet, but if it makes your Grinch heart seem a couple sizes bigger to say so - more power to ya. Everyone has there own little self-delusional lies they tell themselves to get through the day.
And Bush didn't "Win" anything, Obama finally fixed his tragic bone-headed fucked-up deluded fantasy mistake that killed and maimed thousands of Americans for No Good God Damn Reason.
