from the blurb at CNN's website: Who has a more specific plan to help the country?
Before the Republican event, 45% thought Romney was more likely to have a clear plan, while only 39% felt the same about the president. Now the two have switched places, with 45% saying Obama has a clear plan, compared 39% saying the same about Romney.
Full details of the poll can be read at
this PDF
Obama voters were asked whether voting more FOR Obama or AGAINST Romney, and by 74% to 23% it was FOR Obama
By contrast, when Romney voters were asked whether they were voting FOR Romney or AGAINST Obama, the numbers were almost even: FOR Romney 48% and AGAINST Obama 47%
When likely voters were asked about a broader contest, including Libertarian Gary Johnson and Green Jill Stein, look what happens:
Obama 51
Romney 43
Johnson 3
Stein 1
folks, that's an 8 point lead. In 2008 the margin was 52.9 - 45.7, or a 7.2% margin.
And that was a 365-173 electoral college blowout.
There is more below the squiggle
Favorable-unfavorable
Obama 57-42
Romney 48-47 but at least he is finally positive
Michelle Obama 68-28 + 40
Ann Romney 55-26 + 29
Party favorables-unfavorables
Dems 51-43 +8
Republs 42-52 -10 net differential 18
on a few issues, Obama then Romney
Economy 50-49
For. policy 54-42 and remember, one debate is on foreign policy
Medicare 54-43 think Florida, NC,OH, and maybe AZ?
Budget Deficit 47-50
Taxes 51-46
Health care 54-45
Shares your values 51-44
strong decisive ldr 50-44
more honest/trustworthy 51-41
there is a lot more, but this will give you a sense.
Again, to repeat:
when alternative candidates than the two major parties are listed, Obama's margin widens to 8 points, which is approaching landslide territory
on the issues, Romney is getting clobbered, and on some that matter in key states it may doom him
Were I the Romney campaign, I would be shitting a brick reading this poll.
What do you think?
