Mitt's It is not It, over and over. Evidently he doesn't understand that when your embassy is surrounded by a mob of 3000 angry people, in the dark, and you are dependent on a shaky Egyptian government to send the cavalry the politically nuanced management of your internet content may not be perfectly executed.
I've been criticized viciously for typos in tweets sent under conditions a lot better than that. We've certainly seen the disadvantages of internet communication this week.
We lost Americans this week because a gun slinging right wing religious fundamentalist with a criminal record and runs militia training camps thought it would be useful the try to set the world on fire with a web video. He's preparing to fight Islamic sleeper cells and he may get his wish. However on this occassion, other people did the fighting and dying. In a matter of hours unstable cities full of unemployed religious extremists blew up. 10 Libyans died protecting the Americans and many Americans escaped there.
And the whole thing worked exactly as planned. The American flag got burned on TV, more hatred and alienation was generated in an already angry world. The right wing in America emerged angrier and more unified, talking about bombing more people with bigger bombs as if the last ten years hadn't taught us the limits of what that can do.
This morning, while there are still protests, our Embassies around the world are being protected by their host governments as required by international law and the work of building understanding can go on in a messy dangerous world.
Not perfect, but we don't have thousands of people dead and the world can try to do better tomorrow. President Obama and Secretary Clinton did that.
Mitt just flip flops, shoots off his mouth and doesn't understand that this isn't Bain Capital. We can't fire Egypt. Libya isn't an Olympics we can bail out with a bunch of government money. We can't just wrestle the Moslem world to the floor and force a hair cut on them. You can't cram a an angry mob into a dog crate and hose it down when it poops on you. You can't buy or bully the world. That is what Mitt gets wrong. It is why he can't be President.
