After a lifetime of homophobic abuse and harassment I thought I was no longer caught off guard by the levels fundaloons will go to in their quest to ostracize LGBT's.
I stand corrected.
The BISD continuing education program has been offering an adult cosmetology program over at the Taylor Career and Technology Center for years. Since 2009, that program has been led by Cequada Clark. Now don’t tell Principal Thomas Amons, but men are also admitted.
Shhh!
When 22-year-old Kwmane Gray (a man!) tried to enroll in the program, it was hardly shocking. But Principal Amons was shaken to his very cold, intolerant core. Gray, you see, was a wee bit flamboyant for the masculine Mr. Amons. So much so, that Amons decided to take action.
If you can’t rid a cosmetology program of “gay-seeming” men, you can just get rid of the program. And that is what Amons, with BISD’s apparent blessing, did.
An entire school program that will give students a skill set that will allow them to earn a living no matter where they live was closed just to deny an opportunity for survival for a Gay student.
I just can not fathom the level of depravity one has to reach to think doing that is acceptable.
From the instuctor that has been terminated by the Principal responsible:
“I don’t understand this. I really don’t,” Clark said. “(Amons) told me he would rather shut down the program altogether than to have ‘riff-raff’ like that in the program. The next day, he shut down the program.”
Clark, who has headed the adult cosmetology program since 2009 at BISD, said, “Earlier this year, I learned he had a problem with gay guys while we were at the hair show in April.” Clark said at the hair show, Amons told her that he never wanted to see “flamboyantly gay guys” in the BISD program like the men enrolled at other programs competing in the event.
“I couldn’t believe it then; I kind of thought he was just venting at that time,” Clark said of what she called an awkward encounter. Clark said she knew Amons was serious when 22-year-old Kwmane Gray tried to enroll in the program.
10:39 AM PT: Sorry about hanging it on the Baptists.
I misread two sentences and thought they said the Principal had gotten permission from the Deacon to close the program. Instead it reads the Principal causing the problems is a Baptist Deacon.
10:42 AM PT: Apparently the decision to rescind the program has been revisited. It may take until Monday or later to find out for sure if students are allowed to go to school.
