From HP, pulled from a private video of Romney with some potential voters:
It's Romney's remark about the president's backers that might have the most potential to undermine his candidacy, however, as Romney seeks to persuade people who voted for Obama in 2008 to switch this time.
"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what," Romney says in one clip. "All right -- there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent on government, who believe that, that they are victims, who believe that government has the responsibility to care for them. Who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing."
I have parents who've paid into the system their entire life. Today, when they need it most (since both are infirmed), a majority of their services (particularly for alzheimer's home care) have been cut to nothing in the state coffers. As a result, our entire family has to try and manage costs that will very likely break us in the near future if there is no further help (even Medicaid can't fill the entire gap). This could go on for years on end.
So, Mr. Romney, is my dad, who was a Marine that fought for your country in WWII, a "victim" and an undeserving member of society? Is he not "worthy" of being called a real American because he didn't retain millions after your party gutted his and my mother's savings during the last two recessions? Is he expendable because he can no longer fend for himself and needs help that goes beyond whatever little money he has left in a system that wants to eagerly send him down a gaping donut hole? I wouldn't expect you to answer that. You've never answered anything honestly so why would it start now.
We all know that most republicans look at the world purely in black and white terms. If you're on welfare, you're lazy. If you vote Democrat, you must be a socialist. If you don't agree with how a war is waged, you're committing treason. If you get an unforseen illness and it forces you into poverty, so be it. It's your fault. Drop dead.
But to have a Presidential candidate - a guy who hopes to represent all of the people in the most powerful position in the U.S. - characterize 47% of us as "parasites" in his eyes is sickening. Sure - he never actually said "parasites' or "losers" - but it sure as shit is what he meant.
What's more, the idea that government services and programs like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are entitlements we don't really deserve is a rage-inducing insult. For a man who spent his fighting years in France, grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth and believes he can represent all Americans as President, I am speechless at this video.
"[M]y job is is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."
Just to be perfectly clear, Mitt: Go fuck yourself.
Thank you, video poster, for giving us insight into the real Mitt Romney and, for that matter, the poison that is the republican party. Here's hoping his Presidential campaign, and the party that supports it, sinks into the abyss where they belong.
