Orange Squiggle of Down-Ticket Power

EDR compiles, describes and links election related diaries for down-ticket races through the closing months of election seasons. Down-ticket means any non-Presidential race.

This group was formed by the producers of a front page diary series that rescued election related diaries in 2006, 2008 and 2010. 2012 marks the first election since Daily Kos was born that there is blog devoted to election coverage - Daily Kos Elections.
Election Diary Rescue is proud to be a part of this project.

EDR chronicles the passion, power and effectiveness of political engagement and shines a light on candidates and issues that might be missed during an action-packed election cycle. It gives quick access to races, hopefully inspires people to write about contests that interest them, and has become an archive for thousands of election related diaries over the years.
The Diary List
for this project, founded by sidinny, links all the rescued diaries since 2006.

Format, Schedule & Tags:

Diarists can help the EDR mining team by identifying the race in the diary title, for example: (FL-14) or (GA-Gov) or (NY-Sen). New this year, you can write your first sentence or two as the synopsis you would like to see in the EDR description.

EDR's schedule for mining diaries is noon to noon. Our publishing schedule is in the evening. That means for example if you post your diary at 12:00 pm (noon) on Wednesday, we will include it in the EDR list in Thursday evening's post. If you publish your diary at 11:59 am on Thursday, it will be in the diary collection for Thursday evening as well.

[MA-Sen] The Hypocrisy of Scott Brown by hishighness - Diarist highlights an ad in which Scott Brown whines about how Elizabeth Warren had launched personal attacks on him. Sometimes Conservative Hypocrisy knows no bounds, as Senator Brown disgustingly attacking Elizabeth Warren for not being 1/32nd Native American during their debate.

[NV-Sen] NV-Sen: House of Ras Has Dean Heller (R) with 42% and Shelley Berkley (D) 41% With Likely Voters by poopdogcomedy - Rasmussen's polling is generally not to be taken seriously, but an email from Shelley Berkley's (D) campaign shows her one point behind incumbent Senator Dean Heller (R) by Rasmussen's numbers.

House

[FL-09] They Want to Destroy Social Security (circa 1935) by Alan Grayson - Grayson's Tea Party opponent [Todd Long] is a perfect example of Republicans disguising their true intent for Social Security. Long (R) calls Social Security a “Ponzi scheme”; he calls Social Security and Medicare “robbery”; he calls them unconstitutional; and somehow we’re supposed to believe that he’s the one to save them.

[IA-04] More news & insight from IA-04 by teacherken - More details from the diarist on this race as he volunteers for the Christie Vilsack (D) campaign, running against Steve King (R).

[OH-16] Obama up 51-46-1 in Ohio by BostonBilly -Short diary with link to Akron Beacon Journal poll showing President Obama winning among Ohio likely voters, and asking for help to re-elect Rep. Betty Sutton (D), who has been redistricted into a contest with Tea Party freshman Rep. Jim Renacci (R).

[TN-27] TN Majority Leader Gerald McCormick(R) caught stealing signs by Sandy on Signal - The Republican House majority leader Gerald McCormick got caught stealing yard signs for Democrat Frank Eaton in Tennessee's 27th district, then cussed Eaton out in front of his wife. This is not acceptable behavior, even in TN. Richard Floyd (R) is Eaton's opponent in the race.

State

[MI-Var] West Wing ad for Supreme Court candidate Bridget McCormack a smashing success - here are the numbers by Eclectablog - A much-viewed ad for Michigan SC candidate Bridget Mary McCormack has led to a flood of small donations to her campaign. Shelia Jackson and Connie Marie Kelley are the other Democrats in this multi-member election; Brian K. Zahra, Stephen J. Markman and Colleen O'Brien are their Republican opponents.

Ballot Initiatives

[MN-Voter ID Amend] My LTE re: MN voter ID amendment by Rosebuddear - Offering of diarist's Letter to the Editor of the Star-Tribune regarding the proposed voter ID amendment in Minnesota.

According, to the National Journal, Democrats have 6-1 edge in ballot request so far, the Wall Street Journal report.

Updated NC, NV, and PA: Dems gaining steam in voter registration! by FightingRegistrar -In three key battleground states, Democratic voter registration is outpacing Republican voter registration by a significant amount.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
