Well after yesterday's epic FAIL on the greek bread, possibly from an century old can of evaporated milk product, I decided to give Greek Bread another try. Today was a warm day in Chico. Paul bought a new Mountain Bike at Walmart, and I got a Schwinn Hybred at Target. The new car really made shopping a pleasure! Lifestyle out of the city is very different, and definitely requires an automobile, where in SF a car is a liability! In the last 6 months I have lost almost 50 pounds mainly through physical therapy and walking morning and night. I decided to step up my exercise routine, and hence the bike. The downtown area is 2.2 miles from my new house. I have walked it a couple times and it takes about 45 minutes to make the trek. I thought that it would be a lot of fun to actually Bike to and from the old town, I am thinking I should be able to bike to the city in 20-25 minutes. Taking up a lot less of the day, and getting a better cardiovascular workout.
So tonight, after solving and confronting the problems of the day, I decided to try and solve the problems of yesterday, namely that darn FAIL on the Greek Bread. So I went to Safeway and purchased a brand new can of Evaporated Milk for that Greek Bread.
GREEK BREAD 1 1/2 Pound Loaf
1/3 cups water
1 cup evaporated milk
2 1/3 cup Bread Flour
2/3 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
1 Tablespoon gluten
2 Teaspoon sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 teaspoons bread machine yeast
So I checked the bread several times, and this time the bread did in fact rise during the rise cycle.
I waited a hour or so and check the second and thrid rise, and they went without a hitch.
In about 30 minutes I started to smell the wonderful smell wonders of fresh bread baking, and so I went and checked, it was rising nicely. In about 45 minutes the buzzer sounded and I rose to pull the bread out of the machine and cool on the rack. I fell asleep before the bed was cool, so my roommate Paul wrapped the bread up for the night before he turned in.
This morning I went by the farmers market, bought some peppers, cheese, honey, eggs, farm fresh eggs and came home to whip up a good breakast. I first roasted the peppers on the stove, till they had a nice charring to them, then I scrambled the eggs and added the last of evaporated to the scrambled egg mixture, added salt and pepper to eggs, sliced up the roasted peppers and put them in the frying pan and stir fried them a little bit. I then added the egg mixtiure and started to make scrambled eggs in the peppers.
I cooked up some slices of turkey bacon, toasted a couple of slices of the Greek Bread and sat down to eat my feast! The bread was wonderful, moved right upo there to favorite #3, after Yogurt Bread and Sour Cream Bread, light fluffy, well rises, very flavorful, and wholesome!
