They say if something sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.  However, I fervently want to believe in the accuracy of results from a recent poll that says Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy is leading bat crap crazy Congressman Allen West by nine points in the race to represent Florida's 18th Congressional District.

Here's part of the story from Huffington Post.Com (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/...):

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) is trailing his Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy by nine points, according to a new Democratic poll.

The poll, conducted by Garin-Hart-Yang Research on Sept. 26-27, found that 52 percent of those surveyed support Murphy, compared to 43 percent for West, a Tea Party favorite. The margin widened even more among Independents: 58 percent said they backed Murphy versus 40 percent supporting the freshman Republican.

The poll surveyed 401 likely voters in Florida's 18th District and has a margin of error of 4.9 percent.

"It's clear that with his extreme, offensive rhetoric and record, Allen West is turning off voters all across the spectrum," said Alixandria Lapp, executive director of House Majority PAC, which released the poll on Monday. The PAC is currently airing its second TV ad against West as part of a $1.5 million TV buy in the district.

West campaign spokesman Tim Edson said the "concocted poll" doesn't reflect reality.

No matter how you look at this poll, the reality is that Murphy has a realistic shot at beating West.

Even though I don't live in that district, I gave $47 to Murphy's campaign in the name of The 47 Percent the other day.  He needs as much financial support as possible to remain competitive.  Please give if you can.  His campaign's web site is at:  PatrickMurphy2012.Com

Here's an excerpt from a press release posted on that site:

Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. – The Murphy for Congress campaign announced over $1,050,000 raised in the third quarter of 2012, bringing the total haul for the cycle to over $3.3 million.  Murphy is among the top three Democratic fundraising challengers nationwide.

“I am truly honored to have received the financial support of so many people to make this our most successful fundraising period to date,” commented Murphy.  “This underscores the fact that the people of Florida’s 18th district are fed up with the extremism that Allen West has brought to Congress.”

Murphy has some solid backing and lots of momentum heading toward the election.  We need to do what we can to help him unseat Allen West.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
