I've always wondered why General Electric permitted the kind of discourse for which MSNBC has become notorious to be broadcast on its own facilities. The network's diatribe is plainly contrary to GE's own interests. Still, I must say that I have enjoyed it very much. Thank you. Still, I've got to wonder...(continue after the most elegant taco)
Now, I like to think that I've never trusted any of the television networks any further than I could throw them, but I have to admit - Rachel Maddow seemed like such a refreshing change to me. She has helped me remain hopeful and – entertained! There was always something untrustworthy about Ed Schultz, though. I used to tune in to his radio programs, but something always bothered me a little about old Ed. He often seemed just a little too eager, even then. After he landed the cable gig, and I heard about his ski-resort empire, well that didn't relieve my misgivings. Not much it didn't. I always wanted to trust Rachel, but tonight, when the very-well-paid-talking-heads of the left on MSNBC began to sound less like counter-weights and more like book-ends to GE's trophy-shelf on FoxNews with respect to the president's debate performance tonight; I began to wonder a little less.
Olbermann is gone. Maddow, Schultz, and some others are still there, pulling down nice salaries. Fox is trumpeting Romney's victory in tonight's debate while MSNBC is lamenting Obama's loss, roundly. I saw no such defeat on my TV. But the MSNBC gang seemed almost gleeful in their unanimity with Mr. Murdoch's network on the outcome.
I am just about through wondering why GE permits MSNBC to continue on. As much as I hate to admit it, I do think that I was almost suckered in. As much as I want to believe that Maddow, Schultz, and O'Donnell are honest, decent people - there is now a little less to recommend them to the likes of me. Their performance tonight may garner each a healthy bonus from GE in the weeks to come ... and I guess that is just part of the bargain. I should not be surprised, or disappointed, but still – I am.
I don't know about you, but I do believe it's time for this old boy to un-plug the TV-set and finally haul it off with the next load to the dump where it belongs. About the only reason I kept the damned thing around was MSNBC, and it looks an awful lot like the owners over there have been counting on the gullibility of fools like me…and you.
What do you think?
