The new Obama campaign ad is taking off. It made it up to the 2nd position (at least) on Reddit.com's "politics" page and is spreading rapidly on Twitter. Here's NBA owner Mark Cuban:
Now, the YouTube counter for the ad is stuck on 2,468 views. Ignore that, it will catch up when they verify it's not a spam attack. Look at the "likes". They are at 5,000 already. How does this translate into views? Usually, the views will be something like 100 times more than the "likes". That would put the views at half a million already.
The ad may connect for the following reasons:
- As Cuban says, it's very funny.
- It's easy to understand regardless of your level of political knowledge
- It mocks Romney as unserious
- It once again aligns Romney with the rich (and crooked) guys
- Big Bird! Duh.
Sesame Street has formally objected to the politicization of Big Bird. This is a formality, they have to do this since they rely on public funding (at least for now!). But this is fair use. And it's the Romney campaign that injected Big Bird and PBS into this campaign.
UPDATE: From the Denver Post:
Who'll See It: The Obama campaign is not spending any money to air the ads in swing states. It's for national cable only, NBC News' Chuck Todd reports. That means its real purpose is to get cable news shows to talk about the ad all day, instead of, say, Obama's performance in the debate.

WHYGODWHY
Sure big bird takes the fall when everyone knows it's Evil Ernie that masterminded every wall street debacle since the seventies through the corporate raiding barbarians at the gate to junk bonds, CDOs and the housing bubble. Have you seen Grover lately? I think they gave him a one way ticket out of town.
