The San Francisco Examiner, a newspaper which endorsed John McCain for President for years ago under different ownership, wholeheartedly endorsed Barack Obama for a second term as President of the United States.
There were several of Obama's achievements that the Examiner pointed to that would justify a second term for him. Here are a few of them.
1. Getting us disentangled from Bush's misadventures in the Middle East.
2. Health care reform.
3. Support for gay marriage.
4. Stopping us from sliding into a depression.
But the most juicy parts of the endorsement were the slams on Mitt Romney.
Running against Obama is Mitt Romney, a social moderate but staunch economic conservative who believes that people unfortunate enough to require the safety net of social programs during economic downturns are complainers who feel entitled to government services.
Complainers! Ha ha ha! But there's more.
Romney has proven genuinely adept at making money for himself and his investors, but his private sector track record provides no support for his assertion that he knows how to put America back to work.
Great line. I wish the Obama campaign would keep going after him on this!
And he has flip-flopped on numerous issues, most notably his own healthcare record — the program he signed into law while governor of Massachusetts. By disavowing his greatest legitimate accomplishment, and by running on a business record that is hardly a résumé for job creation, it is unclear exactly what platform Romney advocates.
Flip-flopped! Unclear! Ha ha ha the Romney campaign has been comedy gold for any rational human being. I just hope some undecided voters out there read newspaper endorsements.
