I have seen a lot of comments/diaries about people being worried about the election. So rather than worrying why don't you DO something about it. Here's a list of things you can do. Please take a few hours this weekend to do one of these:
If you live in a swing state:
1) go to your local office and canvass;
2) make phone calls from your local office;
3) do data entry at your local office;
4) help your local office get together the walk lists and materials for those who are canvassing;
5) make phone calls from home through the campaign website;
6) write a letter to the editor;
7) call your friends, relatives, and neighbors to persuade them to vote for the President (and the democratic team) and get their commitment to actually vote;
8) if you know any obama supporters who may have difficulty getting to the polls because they are elderly, disabled or lack transportation, call them and find out if they have a plan to get to the polls. If they don't either offer to drive them or make sure their information is given to your local OFA office so that they can be given a ride to the polls;
9) Make sure any Obama supporters who you know who may be too busy to get the polls on election day (or are going to be out of town), have the information they need to early vote or absentee vote if this is available. If an application is needed, get it to them. Offer to turn it in for them.
And in addition to the above, donate money if you can afford it. And if you have a t-shirt or sweatshirt from the campaign, make sure wear it everywhere you go this weekend (for example, the grocery store, your child's sports games etc. . . ). And put a yard sign in your yard if you haven't already.
If you don't live in a swing state, you can still help. You can:
1) drive to a swing state and volunteer to do any of the things above;
2) make phone calls from home through the campaign's website;
3) volunteer at your local office to make calls to swing state voters or recruit other volunteers who may be able to go to swing states to help;
4) call your friends and relatives in swing states to convince them to vote for the President, and get their commitment to vote. You can also help them if they need things like early vote/absentee vote information or rides to the polls, by making calls to their local offices to make sure that they have the information they need.
And of course donate money if you can afford it.
There is a lot to do. And if all of us do our share it will make a big difference.
