I know it seems scary to canvass. You have to knock on the doors of people who you don't know and talk to them. You may be concerned that you don't know enough or you may be concerned about how people will react to you.
But I will tell you you can do this. And if you have been reading this site, you certainly have more than enough knowledge to canvass.
It is easier than you might think. The campaign will give you a script and a list of voters. They will provide you with a form to record the information. They will give you the literature to leave with the voters. And they will provide you will information about absentee and/or earlier voting if it is available in that area. They will provide you with the date and times for voting, along with the particular voter's polling place. The campaign will give you a map from their office (or the other place you are starting from) to the area where you will canvass. They will give you a map of the streets that the houses are on. They will train you at the office and will give you a phone number to call if you have problems.
Yes, the first few houses will be difficult. But after the first few houses you will see your confidence improve and it will become easier. And yes, there are some people who are rude but for every rude voter you encounter you will encounter many more that are not. And you will feel great when you know you have said something that has encouraged that voter to go to the polls on November 6th and vote to re-elect the President.
You don't have to do the canvassing by yourself if you don't want to. If you come with a friend, you and your friend can knock on the doors together. If you come alone and are uncomfortable canvassing alone, I am sure the campaign can pair you with someone else who is also by themselves.
So, please if you have never canvassed before, please give it a try.
And if after reading what I said above, it still seems hard, think how hard it will be to spend the next four years living with President Romney.
