Mitt Romney is being labeled an "economic traitor" in a new ad campaign focusing on Romney's work with Bain Capital and the current outsourcing of Sensata Technologies jobs to China. The ads are backed by a $1 million television and online buy and are being run by Workers' Voice, the AFL-CIO Super PAC, and Patriot Majority, a Super PAC linked to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (who has gone after Romney hard on several occasions himself).
The hard-hitting ad will run on television in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Youngstown, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where it will reach Ohio voters. Online ads will run throughout Ohio and Wisconsin on Facebook, Google, and Bing. Romney's outsourcing career has special resonance in these states, which have lost so many jobs overseas thanks to business deals just like those Romney specialized in.
The tough, even brutal, label of "economic traitor" is the sort of thing that campaigns usually avoid, while Super PACs are more free to use language and level charges that are likely to be widely criticized.
