On a nefarious rant about entitlements that tries to make out to be, a holy quest
America’s ethos once was what Eberstadt calls “optimistic Puritanism,” combining an affinity for personal enterprise with a horror of dependency. Nov. 6 is a late and perhaps last chance to begin stopping the scandal of plundering our descendants’ wealth to finance the demands of today’s entitlement mentality.
Ah yes those evil goddamned entitlements that have just got to go, and you just know when they use these figures:
But between 1960 and 2010, entitlements exploded from 28 percent to 66 percent of federal spending.
It is more like 52%, but there you go again.
By entitlements they mean: Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, most Veterans' Administration programs, federal employee and military retirement plans, unemployment compensation, food stamps, and agricultural price support programs.
Pretty much the programs that keep your head above water and that you have paid for to be entitled.
So how are these paid for? Where does the government get the money.
Income taxes: 47% of total revenue
Social security/ social insurance payments 36%
Corporation taxes 8%
Taxation stands today at about 15% of GDP.
The lowest for sixty years, on average that would be a full two to three points higher.
Meanwhile the military budget has stayed around 4 to 5 % of GDP.
Why you ask is revenue as a part of GDP falling?
They graph shows a marked drop in participation of the corporations whereas income tax has remained remarkably stable. Corporations are people too, my friend.
Except when, and I want to be absolutely clear as to when, when the Republicans were in power from 2001 to 2008. Their policies dug the hole that they now claim they can fix, because the one thing Bill Clinton got absolutely right was; that in good times you fill the coffers.
Slashing taxes for their friends, and their friends businesses, have accelerated the gaping chasm.
What they now propose is to accelerate this heist and to pay for it they will sacrifice what we have paid for, all the time fueling an arms race against nobody in particular with ever increasing expenditure.
Double down on an already failed policy. Typical of the modern GOP.
So to make them happy in their give-away, we will get less in return. You can bet your life on it you will end up paying more. Their fecklessness is plain for all willing to see it.
What type of country do you want?
One that all your hard earned income goes to the top 1 % and the industry of death?
Sorry but this talk of a holy entitlement quest is pure bullshit, its not as if these programs they deem as "entitlements" are free we have all paid into them, either by service to country or work.
You want to reduce unemployment? Well invest in America and we have always been most successful when we have redistributed the wealth with intelligence.
Raise taxes on both individuals and corporations capable of paying, invest the revenue in the infrastructure, and as revenue rises pay off the debt; and don't think you can start cutting taxes all over again, keep investing.
