I won't make this a long diary.  I am an American living in Canada.  In 2008, I received my absentee ballot from Ohio with no problem.

This election year, I received a form that said I was required to send some piece of paper that proved my Ohio residency.  I called the Election Office and asked how the hell am I was to do that since I have not lived there in 20 years?  She told me I could simply send a copy of my passport with my absentee ballot request.

I took her name and did EXACTLY as she told me to do.

I waited...and waited...and when I started receiving campaign ads from the Republican Party (I'm a Registered Democrat), I knew something was foul.

I called two weeks ago and she told me "it was in the mail!"

More bullshit arrived from the Republican party.

I called last Thursday and some nasty old hag told me it was "too late" for me.  That I hadn't followed the "process" because my fucking Passport was not a VALID form of ID to get an absentee ballot because, and I quote, "your passport says you were born in Washington State." Of course it does...since that is where i was born before my parents moved to Ohio where I spent the next 20 years of my life at the same fucking address!

Now I do not get to vote...and I am sure it was not only done on purpose, but it has been done to others.  And, I am PISSED.

How many other people have been disenfranchised in this way?

And, dear and wise Kossacks, please do tell me where I send my wrath since I cannot send it in the form of a vote telling Romney to fuck off?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
